Thread Starter
Hi, I recently found the need to upgrade the ram in my Asus G53s ( g53sw-xn1 ) and I was wondering if I could get some help with that. I have never actualy added ram to a laptop before, do I need matching ram to what it has in it, or any brand with the right specs, etc. thank you for the help in advance.

also, Is there a way to do a clean windows only install that doesnt install all the assus stuff? (without having a windows cd of course)

No, you can't reinstall Windows onto a machine without the CD.

As for the ram, the easiest way to find out is to go back to the place where you bought it. Did you buy it off Newegg? Link it to us and we can help more.

Here is a video of how to replace or upgrade the memory chips and HDD: http://youtu.be/Ev8y8xlCdHE
Not the same model as we have but its done the same way as shown in the video.

As for the clean install of the OS without all the Asus junk it can be done. I don't have the time to do a walk threw but I will say you will have to be careful since the W7 64bit install in on a hidden portion. Don't go changing the the portion as you can loose the OS install that on the hidden portion.
