OCN Articles, Calling on the Linux community :)

Thread Starter
OCN Articles, how can OCN linux community can help.

With the switch to the new platform, there were a lot of sweeping changes to the site. The one feature I was most excited to see, was the “Articles” section. On the old OCN, there were was a section for this, but it was locked, and contained old and outdated information.

You can locate the “Article” section, thru the main menu. Inside, you will find several sections:

News, Reviews, FAQ’s, How To’s, Member Blogs, Articles.

Some of them, if I’m not mistaken, are not available to regular members to add, but FAQ’s, How To’s and Articles I believe are able to be added to by regular members.

We have a smart collection of Linux guru’s here, that dish out information and help a lot, and a lot of that is the “same type” of information. I would like to encourage the members here who use linux, add to the articles sections, where appropriate of course.

So if you have an idea for a FAQ/How to/Article, but don’t have the experience to write one, post it here, and I will see about getting it written.

Here are some ideas I’ve come up with:

Increase Battery life on a laptop with Linux (not sure if this one can be made “generic” to not to be distro specific.)

Setting up a basic HTTP web server.

Setting up samba.

Introduction to “bash/terminal”.

Introduction to Optimization and customization.

I’m currently working on 3 how to’s:

Compiling a kernel (in ubuntu)

Compiling a Kernel (non-ubuntu specific)

How to install Nvidia Proprietary drivers in Ubuntu(the ones form their site and ones in the repositories.).

I'm working on a guide for SAMBA right now, should be post-ready by the end of the night. Just not sure if it should go under How To or Articles.....I'm leaning towards How To.
