Scrapping my AMD build and going INTEL. I've decided on the i5 2500k but undecided on the motherboard. I have only used Gigabyte boards in the past but the ASRock P67 EXTREME4 GEN3 mobo looks nice but I've never used ASRock. Any thoughts? How are these boards?

I can't recommend it enough. I have the ASRock P67 Extreme4 B3 (the precursor to the GEN3) and I love it. It is a solid, stable board with a ton of features at a very affordable price. I don't think you'll regret it. smile.gif

Awesome. I was considering a Z68 board but I'm leaning more toward performance.

I won't really be able to comment on it's overclocking ability--although from what I read it's pretty decent--because I bought an i3, but I'll let you know what my experiences are with the Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 on Wednesday or Thursday when my cpu arrives.

I have an ASRock 780G (AM2+), motherboard and it is great. Their quality only seems to be getting better too.

I have the p67 extreme4 and I couldn't be happier with it. Been running at 4.5 day one and have had no problems at all. My roomate has the extreme6 and he is happy with it as well! AsRock has really stepped up their game, and they are quickly becoming one of the elite motherboard manufacturers. I would put AsRock's current high end offerings on par with Gigabyte and Asus

Haha, I've had some bad experiences with ASRock, especially with their customer support. ugh.

Anyways, if you want to, go for it. It seems like ASRock has been one of the leading motherboard manufacturers recently. Personally though, I would settle in for an ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN3 or an ASUS product. wheee.gif

for sandy bridge..i have to recommend asrock..i've had asus and 3 different asrock boards.asrock boots faster..ocing is simpler..just..i like the asrock for sandy bridge..ex4 gen3 is about the mainstream get'er done one..the p67 fatal1ty is about $120 @ newegg right now..it has better power phases..i got the z68 extreme3..great board..very solid..not good for a dual gpu setup.none of them really are..due to slot spacing.if you want dual-gpu..look at maximus4 gene-z

Speaking from my own experience:
Asrock gives no warranty. None, nada. If your ownership extends past the retail outlet return policy, you're done. Period. Newegg says 1 year limited but Asrock will tell you to go get it from Newegg. I've used their boards plenty. I know this.

If you tell them how the board doesn't work the only response you will get (after a month or so) is a REQUEST for you to POST THE FIX IF YOU FOUND ONE on their forums so their other customers stop messaging them about the same issue. That's all I've ever gotten from them. Any kind of RMA is out of the question and not done by them at all.

First board had bad SATA ports (would corrupt HDs and took me forever to figure out what was causing it). Another one can't handle standard RAM speeds of 1600Mhz but I just hung onto it because it was not that big of a deal for me. In short, the QC is garbage/nonexistent. You may have to return 1-3 times to get a board with all the features actually functioning. It's a serious pain even with Newegg.

This may have changed with newer boards but their X58 fail rate was huge.

Once you use them it is clear why their prices are a bit better, this is the sacrifice you make for it.

So in short: No warranty and bad QC, but the QC may be less relevant with newer boards. You still get no warranty, thus the lower price.

That's all I can give you, the decision is up to the consumer (basically how much a warranty is worth to you).
