How to change LAN speed on Mint 11?

Thread Starter
I have recently installed Linux Mint on my laptop and everything is working fine, except my internet. My cable is old and I need to force the speed to 10mb/s, otherwise it would never connect on Auto Negotiate setting on Windows. I made some research but can't find anything. Anyone know how to set this?

Code:
ethtool -s eth0 autoneg off speed 10 duplex full

This is assuming you are connected via eth0 and you can do full duplex 10Mbps. Curious though, your LAN speed should have absolutely 0 to do with getting online as the router handles everything there, and even if you are 100Mbps capable internally, if all you're getting is 10Mbps Internet then the card shouldn't care (nor would it even know the difference). Only thing that would change this is if the router itself is on the order of 10 years old and is only 10Mbit hardware. Call your ISP to investigate.

It's that it is a defective 100mb/s cable. It works perfectly in 10mb/s but at any other setting it just connect eternally. It's not my ISP, just a faulty cable I got for free and I wont complain since it was a whole cablebox that I got for 20$ (400ft).

Trying right away.

EDIT: ergh, it says ethtool is not installed...

A new ethernet cable is like...$10. Max. When you said cable I thought you meant cable Internet.

Otherwise:
Code:
ifconfig eth0 <IP address> media 10baseTX mediaopt full-duplex
