New Build Starting In 4 Months

Thread Starter
OK so I know this build is a little bit in the future, but I just wanted to know if I am heading in the right direction. Everyone's opinion will have an affect on my final decision as to how I am going to be building this rig. Just so everyone knows I can't use online services like NCIX and Newegg because I live in Canada and when I checked the prices, after shipping, it's a lot more then if I go to the computer store that I buy my parts from. (the store I use is called Canada Computers and it is literally a 10 min drive from where I live thumb.gif) So these are the parts I would like to get.

Parts I'll be buying:

Case: http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=6_111&item_id=041764

Mobo: http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=26_722&item_id=041471

CPU: http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=4_65&item_id=035530

PSU: http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=33_443&item_id=039393

GPU: http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=43_557_558&item_id=042026

SSD: http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=15_179&item_id=039183

Watercooling: http://dazmode.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=178_179&products_id=1646

Fans: http://dazmode.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=87_94&products_id=281

Coolant: http://dazmode.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=160_75&products_id=221

I will also be buying UV green cables to match.

Parts I own:

RAM: http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=24_311_312_611&item_id=035766

HDD: WD Carviar Black 640gb

I know in the next 4 months things may change because something better might come out but my budget is $1800 CAD and with all this I am almost hitting that mark. If anyone has any suggestions, great, pass them along and I will look into them and we will see what happens. Thank you in advance.

looks good. but, if you're building this in four months, then:

1) Go for Ivy Bridge i5-3500k instead.

2) AMD Radeon 7900 series may be releasing in Q1, so you may want to go for one of those as well.

i'm in a similar situation and i'm waiting for the 3500k and Nvidia 600 series.

Thanks for the info thumb.gif the only thing I am worried about is that when they all come out it will be too much for my budget, the only good thing really is all the prices for the parts I need will come down (good news for me heehee) if I try to change out the mobo, CPU, and GPU the prices for these will break me but who knows right tongue.gif

i hear ya.

also, if you're going for only one GPU, you could get a weaker PSU. check the OCN PSU Calculator for a solid recommendation.

I have the PSUcal and it told me to use a 650w with 2 GPU's, I am only getting 1 atm but I would like to get a second one at a later time and I figured it would be a good idea to get the 750w just to be on the safe side thumb.gif

Why the water? Kinda useless IMO. Just stick with a noctua nh-d14 or sumthin
post #8 of 10
Agreed, if your not going to be doing EXTREME overclocking but moderate overclocking, I would go for a heatsink instead of water cooling.

I will be trying to get as close as I can to 5 ghz on the cpu so that is why i want water and then when I get some more money I'll be getting some GPU water blocks.
