DVD ROM not reading Skyrim

Thread Starter
I have a Sony Optiarc 7200s. I inserted Skyrim but doesn't read the dvd. I try to load a movie dvd but it doesn't work. Does this mean dvd rom is dead? It does seem to read (led light blinks), but windows doesn't indicate that the dvd was inserted. I didn't use the dvd rom for a some time.

I tried:
1. Uninstalled and reinstalled driver in device manager.
2. I tried "Fix it" from microsoft and it said that my dvd is not a readable disk.
3. I did reset my bios.
4. Skyrim DVD is not faulty because it loads on my laptop.

Do you think reinstalling windows might help?

Honestly I would put my money on a bad drive. Re-installing windows probably wouldn't help. I would double check the cable connection going into the drive, it could be loose.

Can you enter the key into steam and install it from there?

Yes, its a poor drive, not a driver issue. I would buy a new one, but for now, just download Skyrim from steam.
