using old boot drive as storage

Thread Starter
Hello guys, have a short stupid question.

I have an old 1tb drive from an old build that I would like to use as a storage drive on my current rig. However the drive in question was previously used as a boot drive, so it still has win7 installed on it. My question is can I just install and format the drive like a normal new drive, or would connecting it to my current rig pose a risk of corrupting windows files and what not?

Thanks.

No risk at all. Hook it up, pull any needed files from the old install on that drive if needed, then format it.

As long as you don't change the boot order/boot priority (make sure your current rig's HDD is set to boot first, not the old 1 TB you're adding), you should be fine. I highly doubt anything will get "corrupted" so to speak, worst case scenario you get a BSOD or something if you change the boot order
