Graphics card for Counter-Strike Source at 1920x1080?

Thread Starter
Hello,

I'm trying to find a card that will run Counter-Strike Source at 1920x1080. Settings don't have to be at max but want to be able to run the game at at least high settings with shadows on and not go below 60 fps.

Looking at these:

SAPPHIRE 100283-3L Radeon HD 5770 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102873

HIS H467QR1GH Radeon HD 4670 1GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161315

Also I want to factor in loudness. I prefer the card to be quiet. I am willing to buy a more powerful card that wont get pushed as hard and will be quiet than a less powerful card that will get pushed to the max and be loud. I don't really know much about how graphics cards work so I would really appreciate your input.

CS:S is a pretty mellow game. Anything modern should run it just fine. I mean, you should be able to get 1080p with medium settings over 60FPS with an NVIDIA 6800 GT.

Look at Tom's Graphics hierarchy: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-radeon-hd-6870-geforce-gtx-570,2834-7.html

Anything in the entry at or above the 6800 GT should run it no problem. If you want super high settings, than look at anything above the 7800 GTX.

Go with a 5770. It will allow you to play CS:S maxed out no problem and have more than enough horsepower to play newer games. Check this one out, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127490

Around 4 years ago I was able to run css @ the settings you describe with my sig rig with an 8600GTS for graphics. Pretty much the only thing I couldn't max out was the AA and v-sync.

As far as brand new cards go, it's hard to recommend anything less than a 5770 or 550ti

I have a Ati 3650 with 256MB of Vram and I run CCS at over 60 FPS on 1080p tongue.gif so just about anything can handle it I assume

The 5770 looks good. Judging by the chart posted I feel that CS:S wont push this card at all. Am I right to assume that it will be quiet while playing due to it not being pushed too hard?

Out of those two cards, a 5770 1GB is perfect.

Edit: To answer your question, the non-reference cooling design will keep your card nice and cool and wont be loud at all.

Are you stuck on ATI? if so those two are fine choices. i would also take a look at these two

5770 vapor x edition
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102898

or if you choose to go nvidia i think the 550ti would be a nice choice
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121435

sound wise i doubt counter strike source would taxing on either of these cards for the fans to blow more than 50%
and i bet you could max it out easily.
Small wonder.

It all depends on how cheap you want to go, and what other games you want to play. A 9800gt would be overkill honestly. So anything from a 550 ti up, or a hd6770 (hd5770) up. If your really looking for something cheap, you can go with an older generation card, or something used if you like.

Just about anything, even the $70-$80 Gpu's should do fine maxing out CS:S.
