IBM introduces a new model of the IBM TotalStorage Storage Area Network (SAN) Switch family, providing 2 Gigabit Fiber Channel (FC) performance and additional functions to support the storage networking demands of higher security, throughput, and management controls. The new model F16 is a 16-port Fiber Channel switch based on a new generation of switch technology. It is designed to provide 2 gigabit per second port-to-port throughput with auto-sensing capability for connecting to existing one gigabit per second host servers, storage, and switches, in a smaller 1U form factor, requiring half the space of the previous 16-port SAN Switch. The new model is designed to be fully interoperable with the current IBM SAN Switches. The IBM SAN Switch Model F16 extends the broad range of scalable SAN connectivity solutions available from IBM for a wide variety of host and storage types.
