Reasons Not to trust Dell [They addressed it] - Page 2

Fought with it for 2 weeks trying to get it to even run, was on the phone with Dell for over 65 hours. They finally sent a tech who opened the laptop to find mismatched video cards, as well as a "refurb" sticker. Got dell on the phone and they agreed to switch the laptop for a different one, so I marked a dot inside the battery compartment with a paint pen before mailing back. 2 weeks later the same exact laptop comes back with the same exact refurb cards and the same exact paint pen mark...I demanded a refund. They tried to say I was outside of the 21 day evaluation period, which I was because of trying to troubleshoot their mess. 5 months and a lawsuit later and they finally refunded my money. I hate dell so much I bought a friend an HP out of pocket just so he wouldn't give money to dell.

Sorry for the rant, but I try to get the word out so others don't have to deal with it.

Amusing.....

You rant on the 5870 problems that were evident in every machine regardless of the manufacturer. ASUS had the same problems. I find it rather funny that you would attack Alienware over that. However, yes in this case I too would easily say "screw you" and move on. However, buying the HP was probably the second worst idea you could have had. Shoulda gone with Toshiba... tongue.gif

Sounds to me like you just want to **** on a brand for e-peen. There are three different "starting point" options:

1. Base i5:
G3Vgn.png

2. Mid-Level i7:
GDE7v.png

3. Top-Tier i7:

They don't claim anything; they just don't offer the slower RAM with the i7, and even if they did, it would save you $20 on a $1,300-$1,500 notebook. Oooooh, the conspiracy! rolleyes.gif

Seriously? The chip is rated by Intel's ARK to work with 1066 or 1333 RAM and has no mention of 1600 being required. How can Dell get away with such an obvious scam? I mean this sounds like a slam dunk class action lawsuit waiting to happen.
Intel's ARK link to the CPU in question:

Sigh. I give up. If people want to be fleeced then I guess I'll let them be fleeced and be ignorant little sheep(and hope they suffer because they just encourage companies to act irresponsible which does affect me later on). I don't **** on a brand for e-peen (besides maybe Apple) because I don't care about that. What I care about are the lies and people buying into them which leads to limiting my power as a consumer when everyone follows that practice.

PS: If you start with the base i5 and try to add a i7 CPU you will get the error. And it's not 20 but 80 extra they force on you.

EDIT: Nice Dell, they fixed the website. Now there's no price difference. And now everyone will think I'm an donkey. frown.gif

For as long as I remember, there has never been a price difference between 1333 and 1600 RAM if you pick the i7 processor. Probably just a glitch.

I still don't see how this is a scam at all. This is like a car manufacturer offering 2 different engines for a car. If you get the higher performance one, you're supposed to use 91 octane gas instead of 87 octane. Both engines can technically use 87 octane, but to get maximum performance, 91 is required. The specs/performance they list for the better engine were achieved by using 91 octane. Is it wrong for them to require you to use 91 octane if you buy the better engine? No.
