Buy now or at Christmas!!

Thread Starter
Im planning on doing a amd build within the next month or two but i don't know if i should wait for Christmas time for newegg to have any amazing deals on amd or intel cpu/mobo's. Let me know what you guys think is the best decision as i think some others are woundering the same thing. I'm going to be using my new rig for SWTOR if it is as good as everyone says, and also basic use. I'm also going into computer engineering technology so i want something that can support any programs that my major will have in store... Thanks and please post..

I was in a similar situation a few years ago when I wanted to build my rig. Your best bet is to order on Black Friday and Cyber Monday for the best deals. I was dumb and waited until Christmas. If I would have ordered on Black Friday, I could have saved myself $80+.

The best deals will probably be during Newegg's pre-Black Friday, Black Friday, or Cyber Monday sales.

Personally, I would consider the Intel route. I was able to snag an i5-2500K and an mATX z68 motherboard for $230 before taxes at the local Microcenter. I was originally planning on a BD build from my previous Phenom II x4 955 BE rig, but after seeing the abysmal benchmarks it was much more cost effective to go Intel.

As for graphics cards, 560ti and above for Nvidia and the 6950 and above for ATI/AMD seem to be the most popular. I recently purchased a 560ti Twin Frozr II from Newegg for $200 after MIR.

If you live near microcenter you can get a cpu/motherboard combo deal.

What is Cyber monday? and also my budget will be around $700-950 ish with out harddrives, OS, and cd drive. I would love a 2600k but i think thats a little too much in cost as of right now so i am looking at maybe a 2500k or 955/1090T...

Usually there deals online on the Monday following thanksgiving. Also, you could pull off a decent 2500K build with your budget.

What about if i do go with a amd 965 to hold me over until 2nd gen of bulldozer? i am leaning towards that decision because i can go a little cheaper than any intel option.I'm looking at asrock mobo (Fatal1ty board) and a 965 cpu or an 2500k and any other mobo which would be more exspensive pretty much no matter what mobo i chose. Atleast with the fatal1ty i know i will have a sick mobo that can last for the next bulldozer chip that inst a fail.....
