Ram Issue

Thread Starter
My 8GB (2x4gb 9-9-9-24 @ 1600) Corsair sticks will not allow my system to get to the windows loading screen unless set to auto. I currently have no overclock and reset the CMOS to try to clear out any settings that might be interfering with booting which didn't solve the problem. Even if I set my timings high and actual speed low was running 10-10-10-29 @ 1333mhz it won't boot, it'll make it through post but not actually into windows, I also set them to manually set them to what the auto settings are and they it won't boot. They mem tested fine.

I've tried upping my voltages on both the ram and on the NB with now luck, previously however these stick DID run @ the rated speed I've had some hardware changes upgrading a 9800gt to a 6950 not sure if that has any relation to it what so ever.

I've also tested some Gskill (2x2gb) that are supposed run at the same speed as above mentioned ram worked perfectly fine. I can't test my other DIMM slots because of my CPU fan is to large and the Vengeance RAM isn't exactly low profile.

Any ideas?

did u run memtest86 on the corsairs?

I had some T1s that cannot overclock on my motherboard at all, but once i switched to corsair vengeance, the ram overclocks very well; it means ur motherboard can be a bit picky on the ram it runs on.

fyi, 4 gb rams might be a bit harder to overclock than 2 gb sticks, but 2 x 4 gb sticks are easier on the controller than 4 x 2 gb, but not sure if it makes much of a difference.

So I didn't do the logical thing and run these stick on start up one at a time which I did this morning, for whatever reason both sticks passed memtest (corsair) one booted fine @ 8-8-8-24 which im running my 2x2 gb stick at and one wouldn't so I guess i've found my problem.

Never overclock Corsair ram, or this happens.

Put the whole system back to stock. See if that works.

If it doesn't, you'll need to reinstall windows as that solved my ram problem with Corsair sticks (corrupted OS with slightest timing tweak)

If it still doesn't work, RMA

As I stated in my earlier post I cleared the CMOS and ran everything @ stock except memory timings which didn't work. One stick is bad or... it will boot and not have stability issues it seems but won't run at the correct timing.

edit.. i read post wrong.. let me think for a sec lol

ok.. try using the memok button?
then apply the correct timings and voltage once you boot into bios

make sure sub timings are set to auto or default

It's just the case of a stick going bad I'm sure now, I didn't think it was the RAM being bad as memtest passed however one will boot fine with standard timings and one won't not much else to say. RMA is on the way the sticks are only two months old.
