Kindle Fire - Page 8

I guess the real allure behind the Kindle Fire is it buys you into the Prime world / 'ecosystem' which has really developed beyond just free 2-day shipping. With the ability to stream content, attain free rentals, and use the marketplace to shop for myriad consumer items, you get an experience you can't get with iPad. And it comes in at an appreciably lower cost. Of course you don't get iTunes, but it seems to me the iPad and Fire cater to different clientele at this point. Hard to say which is objectively better, but it's great to have such awesome devices available.

The main reason why I sold the touchpad was the weight. Also, having two 10 inch tablets was kind of pointless. Holding the fire in one hand and scrolling through OCN is great. wheee.gif

I've had a few phones and have a transformer. I also am turned off by the amazon UI. Just ordered one for my daughter so I will probably do some rooting, we shall see.

lol almost got one today, i was amazed at the screen quality and with root and android market now on it I was SOooo close lol. I just have to make sure they have a sure fix for the no ad hoc connection that my droid x supplies. From what i read seems hit n miss. Although i think the wireless tether app has a version blasting it out at a wifi connection i didnt want to chance it

It's now unlockable (is the guide alright to post on OCN? guessing no) - making it one of the cheapest fully functional tablets when you compare the components you get for $200.

Since this weekend at least its been rooted which gives it admin rights to the user, Some users were saying they didnt need to root to get the full android market installed though, but people are putting their favorite launchers already, Im watching out for custom roms, thats when it will really come alive.

I've been told by a colleague to wait for ice cream sandwich. any idea when you'll be able to setup the fire with that OS? not too familiar with all the nuances - my first tablet/android based device. thanks

My GF got one. For $200, it's a good deal for what it is. Things I wish it had: bluetooth, SD/micro-SD card slot, regular version of Android.

Wondering how quickly a good crack will be out--this thing would be even more appealing with a full-fledged version of Android, as opposed to Amazon's cut-down one.

But I'm really loving the size for book-reading and movie-watching. Not too big, just big enough.
