just an afterthought:

the Sennheiser PXC 450s are 260$ and offer noise-cancellation. from reviewsi found it also offers great audio quality (if i missed something bear with me, it's very very late here...)
should i maybe spend the extra 80$ and get NC too, and that way i can take them on flights too? headscratch.gif

Actually......I had the 555's but since they all are the same dimension wise whats the difference? Anyways, I sold them because of their open design, I just couldn't stand hearing outside noises at the same volume as if I wasn't wearing HP's at all. Other than that I loved them, they were literally like the perfect headphones. If Sennheiser release a closed version of one of their 5xx headphones I'd sell my graphics card if I have to in order to get a pair!

Nope, don't get them. Not worth the price, and IMO not that great for acoustic/rock.

If you got the $$$, buy a HD 598(I really like these for rock because of the forward mids)

If you want to go cheap, buy the SR80i or 125i

If you want to go closed cans and cheap, get Koss Pro DJ 100

If you got the $$$ and want closed, buy HD 25 1-II

Modded 555 does not equal 595; they have different clamping force which creates different sound signature.

I see.

So besides the useless foam piece and different headbands, they are the same? The HD555 still seems like a heck of deal then at current prices.

if you're willing to part with 130$ for the 555s then just go with the 598s for 180$...

Depends on your audiophile needs.
Personally with a amp which the essence cards have, I wouldnt go under a sennheiser hd600/hd650/the old but good hd580.
The open headphones at hd600 also have comfortable wearing which the hd595 I had didnt.
For me the difference was worth it, but I got my hd600 cheap.

If you enjoy good sound, then get hd600 as they also offers great comfort wearing a long time.
better to save up to get good quality stuff.
I enjoy mine alot 2 years and counting.

The HD600 will need more amping than what that sound card can pump out
