My gtx 480/antec mod :D

I used AS5 since I didn't want to use the stock TIM
23E3s.jpg

Zip tie madness :O
1Qwyg.jpg

I used 2 ziggy fans for push pull instead of the stock antec fan
T0pJg.jpg

Put the radiator in my drive bay since I keep the door open anyway tongue.gif

I put these 2 NZXT fans to cool my zalman cooler but I'm going to sell it since I want another 620 biggrin.gif

Conclusion:

I didn't stress test considering I'm kind of pushing it with a 750w PSU and 2 480s lol. But I'm idling at around 36 and will post in a bit when I play BF3. Definitely worth the 50$
post #2 of 20
Very slick installation and good photos:thumb:
I think that deserves a Rep+

I'd be interested to see how the Antec 620 compares with a Zalman VF3000F, as I'm still using the Zalman coolers on my 480's.
A side note on the 750w. psu, I've been running mine for months with a 750w. Seasonic without any issues.
That includes running Furmark, etc. You should be fine with the 750 for now.

As for your zip ties, they anchor that 620 down very well.

I've been following the other threads on this mod, as well as the heat spreader removal guide, so there's a lot of potential here, all at a very low cost.

It sure beats spending several hundred on a Rasa kit and gpu waterblocks, which I have priced and decided not to go that route!

Ya, you earned a +rep for that, good job.

Its a very nice looking mod thumb.gif

Whats the chances you could post some more info on the whole process, like how long did it take, curious minds want to know lol. Its most likely to have better temps in a day or two as the TIM sets up. Mine was about day 3 i saw the best results, only a degree or two better but whatever right. Who was the Vender btw, sorry if you mentioned that alrighty.

Id like to hear about what you thought of the whole process. Still working at setting up a club for this mod, just need to figure out what info/ stuff to be charted. Vender, befor and after temps, voltages bla bla bla rolleyes.gif

Anyways good stuff, nice to see another try "The Mod" - ya, trying out names too

Really this is how It goes

1. Remove the stock GPU heatsink and leave the stock fan on so it can cool

2. Clean off TIM on the GPU

3.wrap 2 or 3 zipties above those little squares on the side but not completely tight yet

4. Line up 4 zip ties around the cooler to match the holes they will be going through.

5. Apply TIM to the GPU

6. After lining everything up tighten the zip ties around the cooler

7. Grab 4 more zip ties and place them on the back side of the card on top of the holes where the zip ties from the cooler will be coming from

8. Secure each zip tie in a diagonal form ie top left >bottom right>top right>bottom left

9. Make sure its tight enough so the cooler doesn't slide around

10. Profit biggrin.gif

also try not to restrict the hoses which would prevent water flow.

The whole process only took around 20-25 min depending on how fast you go

I also forgot to mention I ordered mines used off of amazon but come to find out it came brand new tongue.gif

how did you find the AC5, i used it also. Im hunting around for some other tim. Ive got some flutuations in temps....nothing to im worried about but my OCD says i need lower temps if they can be had. One store intown has some mx4 they may be willing to part with...partial tube and im sure ill pay full price anyways. Dont care as long as they sell it to me lol.

AS5 is not that good. Go with Mx-2 or MX-4.

Had AS5 already so I decided to use it tongue.gif But I'm picking up mx4 when my next antec comes in probably monday and compare the temps
post #10 of 20
I just finnished my re&re and i managed get some MX4. The store sold me a gram or so for $5, pretty nice of them i thought thumb.gif

The application was amazingly easy compaired to AS5 AND the AS5 was a real ***** to remove even though it was only just over the 200h mark. Temps are better now, idle at 25-26c without spikes to 36c. Ive done a few other things ill mention in my own thread so not all can be attibuted to just the change in TIM.

Cant wait to see your pics, tongue.gif Wish i had another 580 to sli mod with. Seems im sucking hind-titty to you all now.
Good luck thumb.gif
