Also, if Virtualization Technology is enabled in BIOS, disable it.

Great to see so many awesome overclocks and great advice (I'll try to help out once I can, but atm I'm completely starved for time).
Only just got the first results from my first day of OC'ing as I have been spending most of my time modding the various components of my upcoming build. While it needs a lot of work, and I'm sure there's a little bit of gas left in the tank, I'm pretty happy with what I have so far: 5 GHz with 32gb of memory, at least 31 minutes prime95 stable. The memory speed and timings are slow, and I'm sure I can bring the voltage down, as this was the very first test after playing around with vdroop and the other voltage regulation settings. I'm also only using one of my 480 rads atm (the XSPC) because I've already wasted enough tubing, however I'll definitely have both when my rig is finally completed.

And as everyone likes screenshots, here's a pic of my dirty test bench that I just whipped up quickly while my case is in pieces:

I've heard of quite a few people with 5GHz overclocks, but as far as I know (please correct me if I'm wrong) there's not too many that have been done with 32GB of ram, so I'm really looking forward to seeing how far I can push this chip biggrin.gif

It's a very nice setup you got there, you might want to change to Real Temp GT though, for full 6 core readings.
Work on that vcore and some fine tunning and you should be golden. =)

Can all 3930k chips reach 4.5ghz just like pretty much all 2500k's can reach 4.5ghz? I'm just wondering because I am thinking about upgrading to a 3930k instead of going ivy and I want to be able to at least get a 4.5ghz overclock on either an asus rampage 4 extreme/formula or and asus sabertooth x79. I know all chips are different but I just wanted to know if it's practically guaranteed.

I'm probably going to be getting 16gb (4x4gb) DDR3-2133 quad channel ram if that makes any difference on how high an overclock I can achieve

I'm yet to see someone complaining about their 3930k not being able to hit 4.5ghz, sure, some might take higher voltages than others but that's about it.

Okay good to know. I'm 99% sure I'm going to go for an lga2011 cpu instead of ivy and I really want to push this thing with an R4E motherboard. i don't have a custom loop or anything for cooling I just use and h100 but I would like to get 4.7 - 5.0ghz if I can

I'd feel confident that you'll get 4.5GHz with a SB-E cpu with a H100. Especially so with a Rampage IV.

I can manage 4.8ghz with my H80 keeping temps around 78-80c max load in my office that stays 70-72f all year. H100 should do that at least. My chip is pretty nice and only needs 1.375v though for 4.8ghz.
