So will this present any danger to a motherboard if you try to run those speeds or will it just simply not accept it and refuse to post

Correct. Anything your board won't do, will be confirmed by not posting, after all options to make it work are exhausted (timings, voltage, etc..). Watch your voltage. 1.65 is the absolute limit. Any higher and you risk frying the memory controller, and in turn, your expensive processor.

Had it at 4.4GHz. My stupid UEFI won't recognize my mouse anymore, so I gave up on OC'ing for the night to work on that.

Just got my new toys in ... seems like a decent clocker, haven't been able to reach 5Ghz w/ < 1.4Vcore 24/7 stable yet. Does 4.8 @ 1.30V and 4.9 @ ~1.35.

Dunno what to think about the temps though, shoots straight up to ~70-72 and stays there (primed for 2h).
