@ShoehornHands,

I'm confident VRM not overheating. I'm guessing PSU too. Any other thing that can cause computer to shutdown especially when stressing (including folding) if "Anti Surge Support" is enabled but again you're running 4.2GHz OC which is not high enough. Still if there is a surge or spike, "Anti Surge Support" will kick in & shutdown your computer. If this is true, then the PSU is the problem.

Also, what "CPU Current Capability", "VCCSA Current Capability" & "DRAM Current Capability" are set to? If they set too low, it can trigger OCP which might shutdown your computer.

Note: OCP = over current protection

Your psu has enough power for your system when working correctly, but equipment can become faulty. If you have a spare PSU no harm in trying it to see if the shutdown still happens.
Is there a BSOD code or error code?

There is no BSOD code, the computer goes from functioning fine to complete shut down without warning.

Thanks again for all the suggestions. I'm gonna play around with some of this stuff later today and see what happens.

Update: I think I figured out what the problem was. I unplugged the computer a few days ago to apply a different thermal compound. When I plugged it back in I must have plugged it into a different socket on my surge protector. I tried plugging the computer back into the original socket and it has been folding nicely for about 2 hours now. Seems a bit odd but I'm glad it's working. Figure I should probably get a new surge protector cause who knows what else is going on in there. Anyway, thanks again for all the help.

Hm... I can't find my processor in the form:

Processor Type * Sandy Bridge-E

3820
3930K
3960X

No 3970X....

Watercooled, I'm not that adept at overclocking Intel systems, I haven't really done my research.

During CPU burn, I hit temps up to about 77c and the cpu throttles down to about 4.1 ghz... I get about 53c idle

I know, I'm doing something wrong ?

I wanted to post this as a quick reference for anyone who, for the love of all good, can't get rid of 9c/124 bsod or anyone having vtt and vccsa trouble.

I have found vtt seems to be the main culprit of 9c and a combo of the two for 124. These issues are exasperated with multi GPU setups and can require more voltage than with just one GPU. It can cause driver crashes as well if set too low.

On the other side of the coin, 124 can happen done with too much voltage to either vtt or vccsa.

I recommend keeping vtt and vccsa within .05v of each other at all times to eliminate 124 from occurring because of too much difference between them.

I also believe one should NOT start at 1.2v for both and work your way down. It is way to easy to have too much voltage that will seem "stable" at first, but end up cause 124/9c and making the user confused and increase the voltage unnecessarily, causing more problems. Start low and work your way up, only increasing in the smallest intervals you can while maintaining the <.05v difference.

Obviously, every IMC is different, and very widely so.

My 3960x @ 4.7 with 1600 8-8-8-24 1t 16gb over 4 sticks, requires 1.135v vccsa and 1.137v vtt. This rock stable, it handles anything I throw at it wonderfully and in stride.

I want to say as a finisher. Please do not use p95 for stress testing. It is too old and unoptimized for sb-e and actually causes more harm than good. If I make my computer "p95 stable", it is an absolute unstable mess for anything else I use. Adia64 is awesome and I highly recommend it. Really finds problems deeper than just the mem and CPU. Also, and some may frown upon this for exploiting scientific research, but folding is a great way to discover problems as well, specifically core voltage and vtt/vccsa voltage.

first of all post a little summery of everything you've changed in your bios for overclocking your cpu like vcore vtt vccsa or other things remember first only those you have changed
and then you water cooled your cpu? if yes tell me about the loop the radiators blocks and the setup itself
this way people might be able to help you thumb.gif

I have tried a couple of things in the bios, I just came from an AMD 1090T that I easily overclocked without any difficulty at all, but again the bios had like 30 settings...
This thing seems to have 30 settings for the voltage alone.

The setup is quite simple, CPU gets cool water first, then the HD6990 and finally the PSU get's the warmest water.
External cooling system consists of two Eheim 1048's in series, and a 9 fan radiator, aqua computer airplex 1080, the system has a 5 liter coolant capacity. Water flow is really good, as there is a column of water coming through about 2 liters of water in the tank\reservoir....

HD6990 idles at roughly 43c, CPU idles at roughly 50-52c ( According to Core temp) and 43c ( according to Asus AI suite)

When the system is set to automatically overclock , it ends up at 4793 mhz, 104.20 x 46

There is a total of three 140mm fans, one shown in the picture drawing air out, and two in the front of the case sucking it in.
Chip set temp, idle is 31c according to Asus AI suite.
The CPU cooler is a EK-Supremacy - Full Copper, and I got the Indigo Xtreme for Intel 2011 as TIM, I have re flowed it correctly.

Soon after I start a cpu burn in program, according to Asus AI suite temperature recorder, the temps will rise slowly, starting at about 55c, and ending up at about 57-60c.
According to Core temp, I get 77C !!

Compared to the AMD prosessor, I find the temps core temp is showing to be way high...

So Either core temp is way off, or Asus Ai Suite is.

At the same time as I start a program like folding @ home, or another program making the processor work at 100% load, the core speed drops to between 3800 and 4200 mhz and sort of walks up and down roughly around there. So something is making it throttle down.

I don't know, why, or what is causing that. AI suite is reporting the Vcore to be 1.386v under full load and 3.9-4.2 Ghz, and 1.422v, idle at 4.79 Ghz

I have 64 gb of ram, two Corsair Dominator DDR3 1600MHz 32GB Kit's w/8x8GB XMS3 DHX, CL10-10-10-27, for Intel X79,1.5v I have kept the matched kits on their respective channels.

I have not changed the RAM setting for the computer manually, only via the automatic overclocking function.

I do realize quad channel memory is a no no for overclocking, but still...
