I feel like my temperatures are varying a little too much. I reseated my H100 today with new TIM because I thought temps were a tad high - TIM looked to be spread but maybe a bit too thin. I put a bit more than I did last time and my temps came down a few degrees.

I have noticed now and before though that I have what feels like a huge variance between core temperatures to me. I have used a few different programs including RealTemp and HWMonitor to check and they are consistent. For example right now Core 1 is at 41-42C, while Core 3 is 29-30C

Is that much of a variance normal? What is everyone else experiencing?

I came from a 2600k with 1-2C variances, and before that a 1090T with almost 0C variance.

I came from a 2600k with 1-2C variances, and before that a 1090T with almost 0C variance.

The H100 thins the TIM out because its very flat. Though not the smoothest I have seen it is by far the flatest. The thumb screws should be turned all the way down until they cant turn anymore by hand. That mounts it perfectly.
If you did put more TIM on then you did the first time, All it did was push more TIM to the edges unless its something like Diamond paste, Since that stuff is so stiff it may have just made a pad and made the heatsink even tighter. (I never had good experiences with Diamond paste not to mention its like sandpaper to a CPU).

I have had CPUs with high variances and some really close to even. And I have also had that be caused by not enough Paste.

When you took your Heatsink off, was the paste evenly spread across the entire CPU? If so and if it was very thin then you will not get that any better. The thinner the TIM the better, you wouldnt even need any in a perfect world(Both surfaces perfectly flat). But since niether surface is 100 percent flat the only point of the TIM is to fill those voids. As long as your TIM is spreading evenly across the heatsink your good!

If you read back through this thread my CPU that did 5410.77 had a hot core on air and liquid cooling. It was still noticeable on phase, just not as hot. It varied by 16c under load on phase and 11c idle on liquid

Thanks for that - makes me feel a bit better about my temp variance.

When I pulled off the H100 the paste was very thin, but there was a small corner of the processor that didn't seem to have enough. I just assumed after looking at diagrams of the die of the 3930k that this had to be where core 1 was at and that's why my temps were high. Cleaned off with alcohol and a lint free, reapplied just a bit more, and reseated everything.

Temps like I said were down just a bit - few C at idle, and I haven't loaded it up yet to test.

Load voltage reads 1.448~1.456 V while running LinX. I previously had it stable at this speed with a bit less voltage but I changed the LLC setting and disabled C-States in setup after getting a 0x0124 blue screen error code at idle while browsing the web last night.

Welcome! I've posted you to the leaderboard.

I had 2 Dead 3930k's 2 dead gigabyte boards, 1 dead Asus board. And my back up system die. ALL THIS WEEK!!

I did say with my luck it will be dead by tomorrow!

It actually went into the BIOS, Then I was looking to put my drives in Raid and the Board froze. Then a D0 Code on a New R4E that had been running exactly 3 minutes!!

Dude. You guys have the worst luck...

I went to MicroCenter today and purchased TWO 3930k's and a Gigabyte UD5. I am HOPEING out of this board and the 2 CPUs that I end up with a running Computer tonight!

Will let you know soon I suppose!

Ladies and Gentlemen! Abeeftec has OFFICIALLY taken the crown of "WORST LUCK IN THE WORLD?" As he prepares for his 6th CPU and 5th motherboard at an attempt for a good one! We will find out shortly if he can take the crown for "WORST LUCK IN THE UNIVERSE!"biggrin.gif

You guys having problems getting the Intel raid 64bit drivers from the 64 bit folder to work?

The driver from the 32bit folder works and there's 2 compatible drivers one has (x64) on it.

It's been 3 hours now trying this thing. i can install windows on my ssd raid but it gives me an error on first reboot saying can't find the driver or it is corrupted.

So I'm thinking maybe i have to install the 64 bit drivers since I'm installing a64 bit windows.
