Used a single stage phase for the validation. Takes much more vcore to fully load it, haven't really used it much yet since reading that the c2 stepping might degrade faster than c1, I'd like to keep it colder for longevity but it coldbugs too easy to use a cascade. I'm trying to wait for some dice or ln2 before benching it up.

Oh my, just wow! Love your wording just there, I'd love to get into subzero cooling some time. I noticed you only had ram slot 1 & 2 populated, I've heard oc result's tend to be better when running dual channel. Is this true because I'm might return a couple of my stick's if they pose no real benefit to me?

Good luck benching it up. thumb.gif

That pre-appled TIM is Shin-Etsu. There is no need to use anything else.

A for this thread, I just got my 3930k C2 and P9X79 Deluxe set up and will be OCing soon. I will also be OCing 8x4Gb of the Samsung 30nm modules.

Source?
Why would it degrade faster anyway?

Google 3930k c2 degrade. Many threads on this. Some people see as much as 200 mhz degrade after only a week without going over 1.4v but people who are benching and going 5ghz + are see super fast degrade, their talking one 12hr prime test and seeing degrade. O the sweet irony of people trying to get intel to replace their c1 for c2 thinking it will oc better lol.

I was reading this thread http://hwbot.org/forum/showthread.php?t=33835 , last few pages some guys were noticing that the c2 steppings were degrading easier than their c1. This is also at higher clocks/voltages for benching, not sure how much (if any) impact there might be when not going extreme.

Thanks for the info. I have no intention of returning my trusted c1 anyways, just glad I don't need vt-d.

However, it's nice reading about the subject. I can always warn friends if they decide to go x79 to do some research 1st.

Cheers!

There definitely does not seem to be any increase in OC potential with my 3930k C2 (Batch: 3152B448). I'm trying to get the chip stable at 4.5GHz now with 1.375v 4.4GHz with 1.35v. 1.35v was a no-go at 4.5GHz and I am only into approx 30 min into Prime testing at 1.350v at 4.4GHz, so I don't even know if this is going to hold. I had high expectations of getting 4.7GHz on air. But now that I've looked around, these chips seem to be all over the place with their OC. Batch doesn't even seem to matter.
