Overclock i5 350 Help - Page 2

My core voltage at it's highest was 1.58v which is a death wish for intel cpu's. I would keep it in the 1.25-1.35v range and you will be just fine for a very long time. I was really pushing my chip to the max for benchmark reasons to see if a $100 chip could beat a $300 chip in the gaming. It did at 4.6ghz keep up with a i7 at stock speeds for gaming purposes only and even scored higher fps than an i7 in BFBC2 and Metro 2033. I was very happy with my i3 but am now even happier with my 2500k for gaming and have not pushed it past 4.4ghz.

Ah okay, I was only planning to go 4.2 GHz, 4.4 at most, so 1.35 should be able to get those speeds right? (Even then, I still need to wait on new ram, right?)

Yes, 1.35v will get you to 4.2 with headroom and maybe 4.4. If you want to try 4.4 with the corsair ram 222 *20 and spd @6 will get you there and you can check you voltage with cpuid.

I tried 166*24 and spd at 8 (175*23 with spd at 8 would exceed 1333). My computer no longer hangs, but it BSOD's within 5 minutes in windows. What could be the problem? My core voltage was set to 1.3

My old i3 540 ran 4.2GHz on 1.36v ,24/7 with no problems at all , I was very happy with it.

@ 1.58v that's scary , I would need a fire extinguisher beside me devil.gif

Try leaving the core voltage on auto and run prime 95 and cpuid at the same time to see what the voltage is under full load. Also I would try memtest to see if you are having any issues with the ram stick itself.

Ok, I got my new ram today, Kingston Hyper X 1600MHz 9-9-9-27. Currently I have all four slots used up, 16GB total. I tried using your first suggestion; 192*22 spd at 8, my computer wouldn't get to post, it would hang like before. What could be the problem? ): Unless I'm doing something wrong. All I'm changing is bclock to 192, multiplier to 22, core volt to 1.3, vtt to 1.4, dimm to 1.65. then in ram settings i put it at spd 8 and put timings to 9 9 9 27.

i3 550

4x4GB Kingston HyperX

Am I missing something?
