Has Viewership Gone Way Down Since the Platform Change ? - Page 7

No doubt activity seems to have dropped, but I wonder if search engine indexing/crawlers/bots have any part to do with this? That would at least account for the drop off on the guest side of things.

I've all but gotten over the changes now that I've disabled (or in one case, enabled) some stuff. I can't notice avatars loading on the fly anymore either, and the PC parts database/PC builder are welcome additions, so once they get the colors/contrast fixed, I'll like it more. It still seems a little 'floaty", but unless I look at CPU use (seems to sway between ~10% and ~20% when scrolling, so not as bad anymore), I can't really see performance issues nor loading times being worse (there's a slight bit of rendering time though), and better, the internal server errors are gone.

I do admit, I spend roughly half the time (if not, less) here now though.

The new site is more javascript hungry. This adds to loading/rendering time, and gives the scrolling a more "floaty" or even laggy feel to some.

Geez, i cant imagine giving up OCN for anything. Plus the site was only down for about a day or two, how could you 'go somewhere else' and stay there? that's crazy.

Honestly, and I know its bad for business, but I like it a lot better like this. When I joined a couple years ago, you could make a post and before you could get back to the forum index, there would be 100 replies. Id come back the next day and there were literally 4 new pages!! I guess Im just riddled with ADD and it was just too much to try to have a discussion so I kinda ventured out. I think you can have too much traffic on a discussion forum.

Personally, I haven't been using the new site nearly as much. About 90% of this is due to the fact that I've been playing Skyrim almost non-stop, 9% due to the fact that TapaTalk is as good as broken so I can't browse properly when I'm not at home, and 1% due to the fact that I don't like the colour scheme of the new site. There are other bits and pieces (ha, that's the name of a shop in Skyrim!) that I don't like, but I knew that would happen and it can't be helped. My main issue at the moment is the colour scheme because it genuinely makes my eyes sore to look at it. Several people mentioned this in the sandbox, so I don't know why it wasn't fixed. It's clear people don't like it on the whole.

Anyway, OCN's viewers are definitely going down right now, but I think they'll come back.

I am just too busy with University at the moment, and this switch has not given me any more reasons to come and visit more often than every other day or so. I wish that was not the case as I used to be very passionate about this community, but at the moment, I will just sit and wait until things change. Does not help that where I do most of my OCN browsing (at work) is no longer doable.

Unfortunately, that's probably exactly what it is. A very large majority of our members use Tapatalk to post when they're at work and such, rather than at their computers. A lot of it also has to due with just the general membership being busy. It's still in the school year and a lot of people are very busy with university and such. I have noticed that the amount of posts we get a day dropped a slight amount, but that's probably due to Tapatalk mostly, and the inability for "work rigs" to smoothly browse OCN.

Yes, this too. Not sure about other countries, but here the school/college/uni year starts in September for almost everyone, and I know from what people have said before that the British OCN population (well, the BoC pretty much) doesn't post nearly as much near the beginning of the year just because everyone's too busy. What I didn't say in my previous post was that, since starting sixth form, I've been doing so much more work than I did at school, so that also contributes to me not posting nearly as much.

Nobody could have predicated a huge drop off in forum activity with the new forum platform due to performance issues. Thats just absurd.rolleyes.gif

Posted the thread for the Foldathon today; it took an hour for a reply. I normally reload the page and there are two or three people already in.
