Muti-GPU Folding Question

post #1 of 5
Thread Starter
Hey guys,

So I had a free eVGA GTX260 come into my possession, so I popped it in my system to get it folding.

I've read a couple Multi-GPU setup guides, and to be honest, it isn't rocket science so I don't understand what is going wrong.

Right now, if I start a client without any switches, it will fold on the GTX260.
If I start a client with the "-gpu 1" flag, it gets to "Calling fah_main args: 14 usage=100" and nothing more happens, no apparent load on either card.
If I start a client with the "-gpu 0" flag, it will fold on the GTX260.
The "-forcegpu" flag doesn't appear to affect anything.

If I run a program like Furmark or OCCT, it will stress the GTX560Ti. Gaming also runs fine on the GTX560Ti.

My monitor is plugged into the GTX560Ti through DVI, and via. VGA adapter to the GTX260.

I don't have any options for mirrored/extended desktop, so I have it set to "only display desktop on 1" which is through DVI (My GTX560).

I assumed the GTX560Ti would be "gpu 0" since it was installed first, is the card displaying my desktop, and is the first GPU in Afterburner.

So, what am I missing?

Here is the flags I use on my 4 GPU setup;

-gpu 0 -forcegpu nvidia_fermi
-gpu 1 -forcegpu nvidia_fermi
-gpu 2 -forcegpu nvidia_fermi
-gpu 3 -forcegpu nvidia_fermi

Guessing, from what I've read, that you didn't try -gpu 0 AND -gpu 1 at the same time? Might be that.

Flags should be as follows (assuming the GTX 560Ti is the primary GPU):

GPU client #1: "-gpu 0 -forcegpu nvidia_fermi"

GPU client #2: "-gpu 1 -forcegpu nvdia_g80"

If you get an error containing the words "Machine ID", then it's set up correctly, and you just need to set the machine ID of GPU client #2 to 3.

If you don't get that error... give up and use this:

:D

I was getting no errors, but no progress or GPU load.

Downloaded the FAH GPU Tracker.

Only difference I see in the configs between what it does and what I did;

It's folding with the GPU2 client on the GTX260, and GPU3 client on the GTX560Ti.

Whatever - it's working.
