$650 Gaming Rig Suggestions

Thread Starter
Hey guys. My cousin has recently asked about computers and I told him that I could help him build a computer. The problem now is that I dont know what to get him.

I will be needing everything except an OS. I have an extra Windows license somewhere. Now, I was thinking of using an i5-2500k. Would that limit my budget too much? What suggested builds do you guys recommend? I want this to last for at least a couple years. I won't be around after the computer is built so everything has to be stable. Thanks smile.gif

A 2500K based build is quite possible if you cheap out on things like RAM and motherboard. I'll give you a rough price list...

2500K - $200
H67 mobo - $80
GPU - $150
RAM - $30
PSU - $40
Case - $50
HDD - $80
Optical - $20

The HDD prices are inflated right now so good luck finding one with a decent price.

Thanks for the input! +rep

Anyone got any suggestions on PSU/Mobo/RAM?

Any corsair PSU and maybe some G.Skill 4GB RipJaw ram.

If you're gonna buy a H67 mobo, you might as well buy a non-K cpu. For a 2500k, buy a P67 or Z68 mobo.

The ATI 6850 1GB is a good shout! cost me £113 last week so like $150, gets a decent overclock and I can play skyrim/battlefield 3 on Ultra with AA/Shadows turned down a bit! and they run mean in Xfire if you was thinking for the future smile.gif

Why would you use a 2500K with an H67 motherboard? The H67 can't overclock. rolleyes.gif

No. Get him an i3-2100 and be done with it. You can make a very formidable machine for $650 shipped. I've done it plenty of times.

Since you live in Socal stop by microcenter if you get a chance they have a 2500k motherboard combo deal for $240 right now plus they price match so you can get a cheap PSU and RAM there.
