[WCCF]Ivy Bridge-E Compatibility with LGA 2011 and X79 Chipset Confirmed - Page 4

I never said 1366 wasn't "dead" - I said that it LASTED quite a long time, by any platforms' standards. And to be honest, i7 920s/930s are still at the high end of the spectrum in terms of enthusiast platforms. No one could point a finger at any first-gen i7 owners and tell them that their rigs aren't sufficient, because that notion is completely false. First-gen i7s still destroy 100% of the games out there, especially when paired with high-end GPU (or multi-gpu setups). Unless you need a workstation, a first-gen i7 will EASILY make it though 2012. In case you haven't noticed. the vast majority of games are pretty much console ports, with a few envelope-pushing games peppered here or there throughout any given year.
Of course no one would actually invest in the platform now, especially with LGA1155, but for crying out loud...you don't need to talk down to someone because you couldn't comprehend what they said. rolleyes.gif

Fixed that for you. There is no game out there, and there won't be for a while that will require more processing power than the first generation of Nehalem chips is able to offer. When you see 4 (or 6 in case of Gulftown) cores taxed at 100% while playing a game, then you can be sure that you need a new CPU. Expect another 4 years before this happens.

P67/Z68 motherboards already received an update for it

Ivy bridge e will be on 2011. Its pretty obvious but I love all the doubting haters.

My rig says otherwise and no I am not a hater. My rig will play any game out right now maxed, and it will likely do so for at least another couple of years.

Yes, because they are reiterating what was already known.

If intel said it wasn't going to be compatible I would think whoever said so was mistaken because there is zero point in arbitrarily making sockets incompatible, and if IB works on 1155, there is utterly no reason IB-E could not work fine on 2011.

Now Haswell may well not be compatible with 2011, but IB-E on 2011 was a given from the beginning.

Most current 1155 boards should work fine with IB after a BIOS update.

The Core i7 3820 should fit the bill, but really, why would anyone want it over a 2600k?

Anything less than six cores on 2011 is a waste of money, outside a tiny handful of uses that depend on massive PCI-E bandwidth or huge amounts of RAM.

Wow I love how every 1366 defenders ran into this thread to spit on X79.

Just admit it, 1366 is dead and going this way in 2012 (referring to previous comment) is just non-sense unless you already have the mobo, triple channel RAM and a sweet deal on the proc.

1155 has the better price/performance ratio and 2011 has the best performance + upgradability.

Fixed. We do not know the upgrade-ability post Ivy Bridge Enthusiast on LGA2011 nor do we know the upgrade-ability of LGA1155 post Ivy Bridge.

No one was "spitting on X79". Neither did anyone say 1366 isn't dead. Neither did anyone infer that 1366 is still a good buy today. Neither do I see the previous comment (or the one before) has anything to do with 1366 not being dead.
