If it's single independent workstations he's looking to build, he may want to look at SB-E.

What exactly does he do with AutoCAD? What programs does he use for rendering?

Generally, CAD programs do not multi-thread very well. My 2500K can handle just about any assembly in SolidWorks, same goes for my $160 FirePro V4800.

A Quadro 6000 is big $$$, and unless lots of 3D content creation is required, like Maya, then it's totally a waste of money.

I would wait until EVGA releases their new SR-3 and go with a LGA2011 setup.

What you have now is good, but If you are absolutely going to buy right away I would suggest the EVGA SR-2 so you can overclock those little puppies.

It is rumored, but unconfirmed that the SR-3(dual 2011) might support dual i7's, which could make for one heck of a rig. Regardless the 2xLGA2011Xeon E5-1650's would be much better in terms of performance per dollar - 6 cores, 12 threads at 3.2ghz .

E5-1650[LGA 2011] - 3.2ghz = $583.00each

Xeon X5690 [LGA 1366] -3.4ghz = $1595.00 Each
