Hello all,two days ago I sold off my gtx275 & purchased a used msi gtx460 cyclone 1gb oc edition(725mhz stock clock) by paying only $7(rs500) extra!
That was a killer deal!
In idle mode the card runs at 32degree.
Now I want to oc my card using msi afterburner, please help me to oc,I'm a noob in oc'ing.
Iwan't to oc the core,memory,shader.
Make sure I dont destroy & burn my card
Also I have few questions:

I'm posting my current gpu-z screenshot(stock speed)

never used afterburner, only used EVGA Precision. What exactly are you looking for here, a baseline of where to start or a goal of where to finish? I've currently got my 460s running @ 860-870 core clock (shaders automatically adjust in Precision) but the shaders are arond 1720 MHz, and memory clock is at 2000MHz. That's my set-up anyway, i've seen others get their 460s to around 890 or 900, but I think those are liquid-cooled, don't recall any 900+ overclocks on air. Prolly could though, these things are so cool even when OC'd.

MSI afterburner is a must here.

Download that and tinker with some of the settings.

I'm looking for a thread on the how-to for it...

Here's something close to it:
http://www.overclock.net/t/641299/guide-to-enabling-unofficial-overclocking-in-msi-afterburner/0_50

Here's another thread worth looking at:
http://www.overclock.net/t/994866/how-do-i-overclock-using-msi-afterburner/0_50

The sticky that I was looking for is gone (must be the updated website).

Basically in a nut-shell:

Open MSI Afterburner
Open a temp monitor (just in case)
Adjust the overclock rule/voltage rule with the first link
Increment the settings slowly
Test the settings using MSI afterburner (if you get artifacts then you're topped out on your card)

My Galaxy GTX 460 ships 700MHz core 1858MHz memory at 1.012 volts if that's any use to you. Without changing the volts I game/fold at 840 core. I tried 850 once and it worked for almost an hour but froze, so I backed off. I'm sure it could go higher but I don't want to mess with the volts. I removed the plastic shroud and fan and strapped on two large fans to keep it under 65c.

nVidia says 104c but I wouldn't be happy over 70c. I like mine to last a while.

Under test
current clock- 825mhz
shader- 1651mhz
memory- 2000mhz
fan- 75%
voltage- 0.975v (0.962 stock)
running kombustor direct 3d 11 test,setting- 32xq cssa,current temp- 67c max
what can be the power my card is pulling?
can I go higher clocks & memory?
what can be the max safe voltage?

nice, did you have to bump the volts? 850 is the highest I've tried, but it wasn't stable, and I wonder if it could do more with a volt bump. but at the same time, I dont want/need to take it there because I plan to go SLI anyway, and will dump it back to stock clocks to reduce heat output.
