Mixing 1333 and 1600, using 1333 in Ram Disk?

So just a quick question.

My new mobo can support memory up to DDR3 1866, and the egg has 8gb G.Skill 1600 on sale for $38, but I currently have the 8gb 1333 version of this.

Is it possible to use the 1600 as my primary memory, and use the my older 1333 in a RAM Disk setup? Or will the 1600 downclock to 1333? Not a big deal, just curious.

Many Thanks~thumb.gif

The memory will run whatever speed is slower if you leave your settings on AUTO. If you wanted to attempt to overclock the 1333 memory you could certainly try, but all the memory you've installed will be a single speed.

Nope, all memory runs at whatever the slowest speed is.  Do not mix performance DDR3-1600 with generic DDR3-1333 memory.  And it is extremely unlikely your generic DDR3-1333 memory is going to run at DDR3-1600 due to low binning.
