Does it matter which side I put the fan on my heatsink?

Hey you guys, I'm currently in the process of installing my Spire Thermax Eclipse II heatsink and I've hit a snag.

The instructions don't say which side I need to put the fan on, and to complicate matters further it comes with an optional extra fan, so you can have one on both sides.

I was going to put the first fan on the opposite side to the rest of the motherboard so that it wouldn't be blowing hot air onto it. Plus there's a massive 200mm fan that would sit right above it if I put it there, which would hopefully increase the flow of hot air out of the case. Is that the smartest thing to do?

Also if I decide to put the second fan on also, which way do I have to position them? I'm such a noob that I can't even tell which side is push and which is pull...

It's usually best to face the fans towards one of the case exhaust fans. Whether that be at the rear of the case or at the top.

You can tell which way the fan blows by finding the little arrows on the side of it. Should be 2 arrows, one for airflow direction and the other for spin direction. If it doesn't have those arrows usually the air flows out of the grated side. Or the side that has the fans sticker with model number etc.

Also take note of the way the fan blades are curved.

there should be arrows on the fan that shows which way the air flows, point them both towards the back

Air flows opposite what a normal house fan blows.Instead of back too front,it's front too back.

Have your fans pointed to the rear or top exhaust if possible. You want the air moving in from the front of your case and out through the back... so, whichever you have space for then go for that one.

Thanks guys. Just finished installing the cooler. It's the absolute ****.

Running at 21C idle. Really happy I bought this Thermax Eclipse.
