I still see 920s selling for $170 and up used. A new 2500k at microcenter is 179. If you do wait for ivy you might be disappointed at the prices because of the lack of competition from AMD.

But he would also need the Mobo and new ram.

I've been pricing a similar upgrade but coming from a phenom x4 840. Sold cpu for 90, and will probably get 35 for the motherboard. Already have 4gb of ddr3 ram from the am3 board that wil work on the z68 mobo.

A i5 2500k and asrock z68 mobo costs about $250 after taxes at microcenter. So it would cost me about $125 to upgrade after selling the old stuff. Not bad I think.

This guy has got a 920 and x58 so he'll probably fetch $220 and up when selling used, so it might cost him maybe $80 or so to upgrade to 2500k, z68 motherboard and 8gb ddr3 ram($40) after he sells his stuff.

The longer he waits the less value his 920 and motherboard will be worth.

I don't know if he plans to sell his old stuff however, but he might as well if he doesn't need a 2nd pc.

Me thinks the CPU will sell. But I'm not so sure about that stock locked Gateway mobo.

i think the 2500k would be a decent upgrade given the fact you can't overclock your current setup due to your motherboard if you want to spend the money. a less expensive route would be to snag a different mobo to use with the 920 and overclock it. i think evga has pretty cheap x58 boards in their b-stock section, or you could probably find a cheap one in the for sale section from this forum. honestly, there isn't a game out right now that will push an overclocked 920 to it's breaking point.

You guys really need to learn how to read previous posts.

I CLEARLY stated, i wouldnt be selling it the 920.

also, it not just a new mobo and new ram, I would also have to get another Operating system seeing as my current vista is tied to my crappy mobo. so for future upgrades and for the purpose of covering my butt, im going to get the full version of windows 7 which runs 190 bucks, making my totals for the new 2500k, mobo($150+), new ram(40), and the W7 is well over 500 bucks based on neweggs prices

I stated all of this in the previous posts guys

Holy $190 batman. Know a student or are a student? I think you can still get windows 7 for $30 if you have or know someone that has a student email.

Not going to sell the 920? Well a better motherboard is obvious then. I only read your first post and title so it seems like you made up your mind when you decided not to sell the 920.

If you planned on getting the 2500k, it makes sense to sell the 920 for about $180 and pick up the 2500k for about $200 at microcenter after tax...therefore only a $20 upgrade and a faster processor to boot.

I am currently a student. I saw that thing on newegg to enter the student i.d and stuff and i didnt know how much that would decrease costs
