Do my FPS seem low in skyrim?

Thread Starter
Im wondering why my fps are so low in Skyrim. Im running 2 5770s with the game on High with 4AA and 4AF. When running in crossfire I will get around average of 30fps, but when I take off crossfire I run the game around 40fps. That just seems a bit low to me. Seems like I should be at least getting 50-60. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/skyrim-performance-benchmark,3074-5.html Im even running lower AA and AF than these tests and still getting lower fps with crossfire off. Running the latest ATI drivers also. Any suggestions on whats up?

Well if enabling CF lowers fps than that right there is a problem. Also keep in mind that the game is HEAVILY CPU bound. Try a clean install of the drivers using driversweeper.

Not sure exactly but you CF setup should be close to a 5870?? And my 6950 is only about 5% faster then that and outdoors I avg about 45fps depending on the scene. Indoors almost always 60 with vsync on.

Just seen the above post and your CPU. Thats the issue. Im CPU bound at 3.5GHZ so you for sure are at 3.2GHZ. The game only utilizes 2 cores which sucks.

Did you get the crossfire profiles in addition to the newest drivers? I play the game on high with 8x 16x and get a solid 60 fps constant. But I'm just one card. Maybe it doesn't play well with crossfire. Which seems evident that when you disable xfire you get more fps.

That is weird that I only average 30 outside and I have vsync always on as well.

My AA in CCC is set to Multi-Sample AA if that helps

There are new drivers out yesterday that I didnt see. Ill give those a try. It seems to not play well with crossfire yet. I dont think AMD has added skyrim in the crossfire profiles. But even with crossfire disabled and 4AA and 4AF on high im still only averaging 40fps outside

Im just going to throw my two cents in right now...

I play BF3 and skyrim mainly on my rig right now, I can get average 60-75 fps on maxed out on BF3, with everything maxed on skyrim in cities and sometimes in certain areas outdoors i get like 20fps, which is odd because Battlefield destroys skyrim in graphics. Now i know alot of people say its CPU heavy like oblivion was, but when i look at my charts, im only pushing half load on my CPU.

So i downloaded the new drivers and installed them, ran them.. a little better, but turn off a graphics card if your in CF i went up another 35-40 fps I just don't think they have utilized skyrim and CF yet..

hope this helps happy dragon slaying!thumb.gif
