HD6950 CFX 550W PSU

Hi

Basically, i want to know if i can run 2 HD6950,s off 1 550W Antec True Power New

Cpu is a Core i3 @ 4GHz

Review sites show 6950 CFX only using 479W total system power consumption when pared with a I7, does this seem right/ accurate?

How much headroom does my TPN actually have? is it capable of stretching to 600w?

Cheers

Tighter than I like to see.

Most review sites, when testing GPU power consumption, don't test the CPU at the same time, and often don't OC the system as much as an enthusiast will. Typical load for a system like that is... 500-550W.

It won't blow up or anything, but it will be a heavy load for that PSU.

Yes the TPN will power two 6950s, you'll need two Molex -> PCIe adapters.

Would i have to run the gpus at stock to play it fairly safe? And even though the psu would be under heavy load, it will still last a while?

Cheers

Lets put it this way:
I3 @ 4Ghz ~ 100W
6950 @ <1.1v ~ 200W(each)
the rest is irrelevant.

Yes you will have room to overclock.. and no, you won't affect the lifespan of the PSU if you keep it cool.
