over 5X as much. Sorry.

The 3930K is half the price of the 3960X or less and performs almost exactly the same. Why are you people using the X-edition in price arguments?

With a 3930K you get about the same gaming perf than a 2500K (more with CPU heavy games) and better perf with multi-GPU setups. You might lose some OC headroom. On top of this with a 3930K you get twice the performance of a 2500K in apps that use all the threads of SB-E.

It just is a better CPU than a 2500K or 2600K. Yes it costs more and if you're going for price/performance it might not be the best option, unless you really know that the extra performance will save you money (work environments). But cost isn't a factor when talking about what simply is best.

Pricy, YES. Useless, NO. If you bought it to game with, your retarded or just wanted to spend money. I would not buy X79 to game with and most of us X79 owner are not using it for gaming at all. In a work setup, it's perfect. I work 8hrs a day. Some renders take me 30min with a i7 950 @ 4ghz. Now with my 3930k @ 4.8ghz, it take less than half the time. Yeah, I'd say "useless" too.

Why all the hatred toward X79? IT'S ENTHUSIAST not mainstream.

Example: I have a Porsche Boxster, the Parsche 911 is pricy and useless, (driving wise) lachen.gifkookoo.gif

Considering it was marketed originally as a gaming/enthusiast platform, I disagree.

The Asus X79 Rampage IV Battlefield Edition along with their original press release proves this.

Asus/Other manufacturers scored big by marketing this platform ORIGINALLY as an enthusiast/gaming "utlimate" buy...Which, it clearly isn't.

So while you call them retarded, it's a blatant FACT, that it was marketed towards that genre.

Later in the game, Intel changed their marketing schematic but, how many gamers do you think bought into that hype? MANY of you.

As a workstation, it's amazing...I have one in the office...But, in regards to what it was marketed as...It was originally aimed and marketed as something very different than what you use it as so, at least have some respect in that regards.

It's also not exactly an enthusiast platform because it's not even optimized for benching yet...So if enthusiast in your language = pissing money away than, yes...Because for the same price as that 911, a Skyline can be had for half and would make you look like a fool on any track...

I can't argue that SB-E in'ts the best platform available to enthusiasts right now because it is. That being said, my 2600k is still more than enough for SLI GTX 580's... wink.gif
post #86 of 94
I understand that everyone is defending it's own platform but this thread is seriously getting trashed by personal ego and "hardware honour".

To synthesize what was said :

LGA2011 is a workstation platform made to run heavily-threaded applications such as complex calculations, financial analysis, data management etc. It is though not made to be utilized as a gaming platform, it deserves better. Of course people could be arguing that it has advantages with four way graphical solutions but who needs 5+ FPS when you have over 100 FPS already ? Extreme benchmark people aside, it is not worth the cost.

LGA1155 is a mainstream/performance platform made to run daily applications with efficiency. The 2500k/2600k/2700k are worthy processors for the people that have more than one GPU solution but not going into the extreme. Indeed, the money would be better spent on a GPU, RAM, SSD, liquid cooling etc.

The SB processors are theoretically better at overclocking because of their lower thermal output and can be somehow faster than SB-E processors in light-threaded applications because of their smaller but faster cache.

Is the money spent on a far more expensive setup with diminishing returns worth it if you are strictly gaming ? That is for you to decide.

You know the Boxster is deemed "The Poor Man's Porsche", right?

"Couldn't afford a real Porsche", well in your case you deem it unnecessary money spent on something that's basically the same in certain scenarios.

Well that's the point the SB users are making here, to them it's unnecessary extra money for something pretty similar, with the exception of certain scenarios.

Sorry, I had to jump in when you said the 911 is pricey and useless. tongue.gif

Also I would say that except if you make use of it its pointless buying high end stuff, simply because there's new hardware every 6 months.

My 24/7 OC is the same between my 2600K and 3930k: 4.8, both with voltage at 1.34v. smile.gif

BUT! I now can use 4 GPUs instead of 3. A big plus for me with my 3X30'' Eyefinity set-up. I get much better fps with the X79 paired with 4X6970 then with my 2600K and 3X6970. The X79 platform is for those of us with crazy 3X30'' gaming set-ups. smile.gif

My 2600K is now in my kids computer for our LAN gaming. Not powerful enough for 3X30''. Not defending X79. Using it, and seeing the difference quite clearly over my 2600K system. wink.gif

And my video rendering is soooo fast now with the 3930k. smile.gif

But the 2600k is still a great gaming chip for the price. thumb.gif
