New Build - CPU Advice - Page 2

you'll be glad you did mate. The 2500K is an absolutely phenomenal chip.
I personally would fork out the extra for the 2600K because when multitasking and coding/rendering it is going to be a lot faster than the 2500K. Also even though some programs things that dont use 8 threads you need to remember that you could code with a 4 thread program and still have 4 threads free to start coding the next thing or even multitasking. Its not just what the program can do.

I have to agree. Intel occasionally releases chips that are real gems:

Pentium D 805
E4300 core 2 duo
Q6600 core 2 quad
i5 2500k

Now I have a quick question. WIll the Ivybridge still be using 1155 socket? I was initially going to get the z68 mobo but now I see that the z79 2011 are out? I have been out of the pc building world for a while so I feel a bit behind on knowledge frown.gif

Z79 is way out of your budget, it would cost you over $300 just for the board. then you need 4 sticks of ram and the processors are going to set you back any were from $400-$1200

There are actually many great intel chips, I was just going from personal experience for my short list.

Since this is the AMD Forum, I would like to say that AMD has had numerous great chips as well:)
