Need help with making a custom bios.

Thread Starter
Hey guys, So i have an eyefinity setup with 3 monitors, and if i leave my cards stock on idle my main card goes up to 400/1000, but the second I overclock, when it goes to power saving it goes to 137/300 instead. So i get bad flickering.

Now i want a mild overclock (only 775/1125) as i seem to have a dud card or something in regard to overclocking. My HIS when it was solo could easily be stable at 1000/1300 at 1.3V, but now in corssfire My graphics cards start to fail at 850/1200 (which is a big clock i know but 5850's are known to handle it). This might be because the board goes to x8 with 2 cards or maybe my PSU isn't big enough or maybe the asus card just doesnt handle much overclocking. But enough rambling.

Now to my actual question,

When i create a new bios since i have 2 cards, i take it i need to create 2 separate bioses? Both with matching 3d clocks, but then one with higher idling clocks for main gpu and then the 2nd one with stock idling clocks?

And then i create them both from the same origional bios?

Thanks
The RIG

this isnt really going to achieve anything. the trade off of crossfire/sli is a lower clock speed. it will run at stock fine, but a single card is always going to clock higher than 2 or 3 cards in crossfire. the bios is pretty much as easy as using GPU-Z to copy the bios off the card and then use a ati bios modding tool to increase the 3D clock speeds and save the bios. then you need to flash it to the card, and this is were it can all go wrong.

honestly unless you really want to try this and dont care if you kill your card then i wouldnt do it. 850/1200 is a pretty good clock, higher than my HD5850's would get in crossfire.

Flashing bioses isn't a problem for me, ive probably flashed the bios over 20 times just experimenting by now, got the 2nd card if something happens while flashing.

The main reason I need to flash and go custom bios is because i want to over clock and also have my higher idle clock settings so I dont get the flicker. I am power conservatve. So i dont want both cards running at 400/1000, only main card.

So do i make 2 bioses?

One: Change both 2d and 3d clocks?

Second: Just change the 3d clock?

not sure. you would have to try it, it shouldnt be an issue and wouldnt kill the card or anything but might cause flickering, have to try it and see. and yes you would have to use two bios's as i suggested use GPU-Z to copy the bios off each card. and use each cards own bios. this way you cant mess anything up if your just adjusting the clock speeds.
