overclocking problem, should be an easy one....

when I overclock my processor, my DRAM frequency raises, which i know and understand that it has to with what i have. the problem is, i am unable to figure out HOW to LOWER the DRAM frequency. when i overclock, i can boot up fine and everything, but when i play any games, I can play for a few minutes then I get a blue screen, something about memory. im pretty sure its only because the DRAM frequency raises and its not supposed to, and if I am correct, If i can figure out how to lower that, my overclock would be fine.

this bios though doesnt have a way for me to adjust the DRAM freq though. its grey'd out. I have tried the + and - keys, the arrow keys, it doesnt allow you to change it right there. i can go in and adjust the timing and what not but i have no idea what to adjust there in order to lower the DRAM frequency.

anyone have a clue on how i can lower that DRAM frequency? My bios is up to date as of earlier today.

I'm only trying to overclock from 3.1ghz to around 3.5 ghz.

I haven't used your board so I can only speculate. I'd say there is probably a base clock that is being multiplied. You would need to lower the base clock and raise the multiplier to compensate (I believe).

yes that is exactly what is happening, but i have no idea how to lower the base clock, could you give me a quick run down? i have picked apart my bios and i just cant find anything to allow me to lower the dram frequency, or the base clock for that matter..

i figured if i could just overclock, then lower the dram freq on its own that would work, but maybe what you are saying is how i SHOULD do it.

You should be able to manually alter the DRAM frequency, but some BIOS' are different. Have you tried searching for your board's model + overclocking?

yes and there is absolutely nothing that i could find. except for someone who has the same main board, who wanted to simply change his frequency for new RAM just to set it correctly, he wasnt overclocking but had the same problem and only a few people replied to that topic with no solution.

There should be a CPU/DRAM Ratio option. I have mine currently set at 1:2.

It should be in the RAM section of the BIOS overclocking bit, have a little look for something that changes the Ratio, it'll be at 1:16 or something currently.

Are you on an updated BIOS? (Nevermind that, you're Mobo's pretty new, so it should already be on there. There are only two newer versions of BIOS since the release. tongue.gif )
