[Xbit] GELID GX-7 CPU Cooler Review

GELID Solutions Ltd. takes its time in designing and launching new cooling products. While other well-known companies launch about 2-3 new coolers every six months, GELID was for a while stuck with their pretty interesting Tranquillo cooler and just recently refreshed its revision by adding support of the new processor sockets. It could be that the company doesn’t have enough resources or is running out of new ideas and therefore can’t come up with another super-cooler just yet, or maybe GELID has been secretly focusing on a new super-cooler all this time getting ready to impress the users? In any case, two years after the launch of the first Tranquillo the company has finally introduced their new GELID GX-7 cooler. And judging by its recommended retail price of $70, we assume it is going to be pretty ambitious. Our today’s review will show if they prove justified or not.

Sucks. I was really excited about this cooler. My work computer has 6 Blue GELID Fans and I will be upgrading the mobo/cpu/ram to SB and wanted to use this cooler because it would match everything. Now I'm not sure if $70 is worth it. Sucks.

Bad cooling performance imo. I'm still on VEN-X and see no reason to upgrade.

I don't know how they test the cooler, but GX-7 was also first selling in Hong Kong like icy vision and I gathered a lot of good performance result and feedback on both AMD and Intel platform.
Below are some links of end user test report and comment on intel 2600K@4.3G and AMDPII 945/955

http://www.hkepc.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=1657312&highlight=gx-7

For the price, the cooler with Wing 12 PL Blue, the listed msrp is usd70, but the actually street price in HK is HK470, the price in US/UK is about USD55-62 range,

I planned to launch GX-7 in HK is because I want to get more feedbacks from end user at short time, because HK customer is one of most troublesome customer group in the world.
If the performance if GX-7 is not good. Then I should received a tons of complaint in HK local forum.

CPU magazine just did a shootout of 9 coolers in the November 2011 issue (starts on page 19), and the GX-7 bested all the other air coolers by quite a bit and came reasonably close to the performance (under load) to the water cooled units of Corsair and Antec.

Such a huge discrepancy in the GX-7's performance in these 2 tests!?!?

I'd trust xbits over that which doesn't hold much promise for Gelid.

Plus it wasn't like it was compared against high end coolers in that review.
