either buy a 5870 and trifire your setup or sell everything and wait for 7970 to come out soon or 7990 depending how much money your investing tongue.gif dont buy another 5970 ...quadfire setups have too many problems not worth it...

Also, just FYI, XFX supplies you with the molex adapters with their cards, but if you read their warranty info it's states that if you use them and you GPU fails as a result of under powering they won't cover it. That's why it's unsafe.

Thanks, good to know.

I went from a 5970 so 2 unlocked 6950s. I will say that even with a single 6950 before unlocking I had very similar performance in most game to the 5970. I will say that the 5970 is a great bencher but was evenly matched or followed closely in actual games by my 6950.

See for yourself:
http://www.hwcompare.com/9425/radeon-hd-5970-vs-radeon-hd-6970/
I don't mean to be a bubble buster, but you will see very low gains over your 5970 with 2x6950's hell with 2x6970's
The only real upgrade for you would be to go 2x6990's but that would cost you a fortune....
And in the end all the cash it would end up costing you to do all this would not be worth it...

2 6970s ARE a big gain over a 5970. You're looking at the performance of 2x5850s vs 2x6970s which scale MUCH better (up to 100%). Once overclocked to ~1ghz+, those 2 6970s are damn close to 2 GTX 580s in SLI @ stock.

Do this and wait till 7k series comes out then sell both cards and go 2x 7970....

If you don't want to do this and don't want to wait till 7k series then just settle for a single 6970... BUT be advised that you WILL see a FPS derail in most of your games that support CFX due to your 5970 having dual GPU's.

kosai's adivce is the route I would take... then sell those towards the end of the 7990 life cycle when people start selling to get to 8990 its cheaper this way and that would last you till the end of 7990 when it's cheap then sell those again after 2 years towards the end of the 9990 hehe. Or you could buy 6990 now then buy another one when 7990's come out for cheap then upgrade to 8990 when they come out.

If you buy cards at the start of the next gen life cycle you would spend the same amount if you sell them after 2 years and buy at the start of the latest gen cards only problem is your initial investment is high

You just need to time the market and sell and buy based on the trend like stock except it's more of an upkeep than an investment to not get left behin because if you wait 4 years or which I'm sure most of the high end cards will last and squeeze every once of performance till the end you'd end up selling the cards at junk prices

I mean if you had a MARS II would you go out an buy 3x 580s?

Well If you want 1 card the 6990 would be the best choice but it's better to buy that when the new gen comes out for a price drop!
