You could always splash some water on your system to see if that 100 C get it to start boiling, that way you would know it real! biggrin.gif. No, know better than that. I agree with you on the sensor going bad. How many fans are cooling your system and how are they set up?

The case is a antec three hundred there is one fan in the back one on the left and one on the top.

And I would like to think it was just a bad sensor, however that doesn't explain the PC shutting down 3 times.... But then again if it was actually that hot I don't think I would be posting right now.

So I just realized that core temp is telling me that the processor is AM2+ when it is actually AM3......

Have you tried updating your motherboard's BIOS?

Your board's bios might be too old to recognize your 955. Since you said it detected as an AM2+, and sometimes temperature readings are fixed with the lasted stable bios from the manufacturer

Would that effect my CPU resetting and computer shutting down?

edit: Look at the pic I posted a few posts back.

ok so I got a new cpu heatsink and fan and that solved my CPU heating and MOBO problem. I am now running between 25 and 30 on idle and 45 and 50 on load. I think this may also be your problem as well and it usually does not hurt to upgrade a system anyway. I did not check the BIOS update because I personally and more worried about messing up my board. Good luck to you and hope everything works out for you.

Recommendation: Buy a new CPU fan.
