FX4100 bottle necking on sli Battlefield 3 - Page 15

But that also begs the question of, what if hes happy with current performance? It looks like the framerate never drops below 60. What about scaling up details or resolution / number of screens? Its a possibility that you wouldnt be able to maintain 60+ fps on a single card with the quality settings you want.

If you are a benchmark addict, I understand having and needing framerates above 60. I Play games though, I like having a v-sync or triple buffered output that can stay locked at my refresh. AMD processors seem to have been able to supply me with this with most, if not all, of my games.

The competitive FPS arena is a bit different though. I remember competitive Quake 3 players disabling textures and all special effects with console commands back in the TNT2 Ultra days. They were playing a flat shaded mess, just to get to 120+ fps for an edge.

Granted this thread is about bottlenecking and Im probably way OT right now, but a CPU bottleneck depends on alot of things. Mainly what resolution and advanced filtering you use, and weather or not you want the parts to allow you to upgrade to a better monitor sometime without being forced to buy more videocard at the same time.

wow. the cpu is bottlenecking much more than i thought. notice the cpu's are at full load already but gpu loads are still very low. that's a really terrible cpu bottleneck you have there

No, that's just how BF3 looks like when you tab out. Notice how the GPU usage on both video cards are going up which is impossible in windowed mode since CFX/SLi requires fullscreen.

The bottleneck would be in the gpus not the cpus if the gpus are running almost max. I seen someone post earlier "what are your fps?" so What are your fps while playing battlefield 3?
Are you running 3 monitors?
I have FX-8120 with two XFX 6790's with 3 x 23.6" monitors running at 5760x1080p and the fps are right around 60. ( Graphic setting at medium ) What is your running at and are you running 1 or 3 monitors?
My GPUs usage is almost max but mainly because of eyefinity. If I run one monitor I get around 175 fps with gpus running no more than 75%.
Please let me know about the questions above and I will try to help further.
Hope I could help.

I dont mean to res this thread... but do you have 6790's or 6970's? there is no way you get 175 fps with dual 6790's at 1080... pretty sure 460's beats 6790's or am I missing something? and I don't get close to that with single 1080 monitor, not by a long shot.

Setting max FPS is not the same as V-Sync. To prefend tearing, you have to enable V-sync, period (ingame, or in the driver).

A CPU bottlemeck can be problem, but only if the videocards are not working hard enough. IOW: if you like the highest FPS and lower settings, cpu bottlenecks is something you don't want. If you like gaming on max settings and lots of eyecandy, it ain't the cpu that is bottlenecking.

Anyway, when you have 60-100 FPS+, there isn't really a problem, is there ?

Its pretty bad that a Phenom 2 X4 at 3.21ghz is beating out the FX 4100 at 5.04ghz.

At least people are buying these chips to support the competition though.

It's cheap (even cheaper than Phenom II ) and can play games just fine. Where does the X4 @ 3,2 beat the FX 4100 @ 5 Ghz ? Cinebench? I don't think anyone will buy FX 4100 or a Phenom X4 chip for rendering.
