Reference + Non-reference Xfire

Thread Starter
I just recently came into a dirt-cheap MSI R6870 HAWX edition and decided I'd give Crossfire a go with my reference 6870. I know they're compatible with eachother, but since my motherboard is a Sabertooth X58, the PCI-E x16 slots are ridiculously close together, so there will be little to no room between the cards.

My question is, since there's barely a few millimeters of clearance between the cards, should the reference card go on top so as not to risk the Hawx' fans clipping the back-side? I'd rather have the Hawx with the better cooler on top, but it just looks like since they're so close, the fans would get damaged.

Any help is great, thanks!

I would do whatever makes the cards not break. If reference has to go on top, then put it on top. if you can fit them the other way, try both configurations to see which is coolest.

slot the cards in with the Hawk ontop, shine a light between the cards and if the clearance looks okay, switch that badboy on..
if not, switch them over and set up a side fan to blow onto them, it will help the reference stay cool
