ASUS xhair V Form (990FX) - help me upgrade onboard sound?

I got this board as a replacement. Shiny new stuff, always fun.
Anyway, I decided to try my hand at something I've never done before. Sound upgrade.
I've always used cheap ass 2.1 speakers...
So, I think... why not try and see if I'm not losing a good experience.
I plan on getting a home system (5.1? I really know nothing about sound).

Question: what would be a good sound card? (no, I don't have the thunderbolt version)

Since I live in Brazil, could you please give me a list of good upgrades. It's difficult to find ine specific brand, so... the bigger the list, more chance.

Also, is this a valid upgrade? I plan on having a good quality home system. Or is the onboard sound ok?

ps. I'm not really worried if the $$ is worth it, only if there is a upgrade in quality (or even a couple of fps for taking the load out of the fx).

Thanks a ton.

Pax,
Alex.

the onboard sound is pretty good on the crosshair.
i would grab the system you want before you get a sound card so you can decide and possibly save some dough.

if you do get a sound card, i heard These guys are amazing.
i would list more but that's really the only brand i know anything about, they are a big company so you shouln't have too much problem finding one.

Now, if you're really willing to kick out some cash for awesome 5.1 system, check out BOSS audio
they are arguably the top company for sound systems.

you could also check out Logitech
i haven't ever owned a logitech 51. surround system but i have had a 2.1 from them and it blew me away for what it costed.

ok, so the Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty is an upgrade?
I found that one around here rather cheap. Wouldn't hurt my pockets.

yup, but i would wait on that until you get your speakers...this way you can see if you like it better with or without the sound card.
if you don't like the sound card, you can return it and not take a hit to the wallet smile.gif

also, sorry for such a late reply
