Slate 7?

Thread Starter
I currently own a Gaming Desktop and a Laptop. I'm thinking about selling both of these, and then buying a Samsung Slate 7 tablet. I first looked at the ASUS Eeepad slate, but the battery life is horrible.

Can anyone comment on the slate? Will it work well for a student? It's a bit pricey, but I don't game anymore and think it'll help simplify everything for me, because I tend to overspend on a desktop I don't need, and buy 2 or 3 monitors and it becomes a mess.

The ASUS Eeepad is great but honestly selling your laptop and your gaming desktop to get one....i dont see that being a good idea....at all. One of the guys at work has one, and its great. Can do a lot and pretty much runs Windows 7 on it. It is the closest thing to a tablet "replacing" a laptop the only one i have seen.

I just dont see why you would want to sell all your stuff for one though.....you would be surprised how much you would miss having a desktop...

Yeah, I guess I just hate how most tablets today are just for play. I got really excited about the AsusTransformer, and now that the prime is coming out...but in the end it's a $500 tablet that's for web surfing and android apps. It really doesn't get any work done.

I personally love the 7 slate... It is esentaly a tablet with mid range laptop internals... And tbh, intel 3000 aren't to shabby... Its works great for students IMO... It is really quick and snappy... It also has an amazing ui overlay so that windows 7 works prity well with touch... I believe that the most recent update made the onscreen keyboard swip able witch tends to increase WPM dramatically (at least it does for me)... eWonder is also working on a case for it that will be like the iPad cases and such... Like said above though, I would not full get rid of your desktop... I personally would go insane... To test it out, try just using your laptop for a week or two... I would personally just downgrade your desktop so it's decently quick, but keep one monitor, no multi GPUs ect...

I agree with this... The prime looks amazing, but in all reality all it is is a media consumption device... I would go with the 7 slate for sure... It's a great device

Well someone linked me to an HP 2740p with an SSD, and theres one on sale on ebay for under $700. I'm considering that one too, seeing as how it has similar battery life (if not better) and a keyboard.
