ok so 8GB is not enough - Page 9

Man some of you guys must do some crazy stuffs with your computers tongue.gif

My AMD gamer (sig rig) has 2x2GB and I locked the paging file size at 1024MB... and I have _never_ run out of RAM or got that 'low memory' message that I used to get on my ancient (2000 build) laptop all the time tongue.gif

24GB RAM is crazy sauce, unless you are doing something you really NEED that much for. Not being a person who does any such things, I don't even have an example smile.gif

I have never felt short on RAM with my 4GB, and it's not like I mould my use of the PC around this 'small' amount of RAM ... I am pretty careless what I leave running while gaming, for example.

8GB kits are very cheap now though, in fact I have one sitting here unused that I'm considering popping into the gamer 'just because'.

I think what I should be doing is learning how to properly overclock the RAM I already have. It's rated at 2000MHz but only running at 1600ish with my current OC (4.05GHz)

Got 2x4GB in both my rig and laptop and set page filing to 400MB. All I do is game though, none of the photo/video editing or coding stuff. I'd say 8GB is more than enough but I am tempted to get another 2x4GB corsair 1600 kit just so all slots in the board get filled lol. What's stopping me is I've read somewhere that more ram = more latency. Is this correct? Will filling up all 4 ram slots make it, in turn, slower, than the 2x4GB setup I have right now?

BF3 was chugging with the 1333Mhz 4GB I had in it before. I then switched to 8GB of 1600 Mhz, and was loading in before all the other players. RAM is so cheap that you can justify putting some more in. Next stop, an upgrade to 16GB for video editing. smile.gif
