I bought it. I just haven't played it much because of the LEARNING curve! However, it is a very complex and detailed game and I should really devote more time to playing it.

Bohemia should be aware not even 10 of those 100 people would actually buy if piracy were not an option. People would simply not buy it. The game is extremely niche and honestly doesn't really shine unless you get into one of the larger servers and devote time into becoming a regular. That or having a good number of friends who share interest in the game. I personally haven't played it in a while. The content, while in-depth in terms of mechanics, isn't very abundant and lacks polish. Kinda sad to Bohemia turn to this "Piracy is killing us!" mindset though.

I agree that those aren't all lost sales and without IP addresses are not indicative of a good number of individuals trying to access.

That said I own all the games and have beaten everthing in single mode. I LOVE these games. Way more control than any other FPS. Almost all the situations require some planning and can be handled with way more variety than other FPS games. Actually almost all FPS games feel like rail shooters compared to ARMA2. Even the overreaching missions of the first campaign have different ways to go about it and different outcomes for what you have done in the game. I think there are around 8 outcomes for the first campaign based on what you did and did not accomplish. It wasn't a perfect game. But with the number of options it had it more than made up for it. Plus it looked great and had a TON of space you could explore. Multiplayer is lacking because you can't simply go in with Modern Warfare or Battlefield mentality. I'MA GO SHOOT! You have to understand what the objectives are for the team. And those hardcore teams are indeed super-niche. But single player rocked.

*SPOILER ALERT*

I loved when you get stuck behind and everyone left and you have to pick a side and do missions for them. I was just like wth??? What do I do now? It was great. You get used to having the usual combat FPS hold your hand and guide you around.

Q_Q if the game turns a profit, make another, if it doesn't, don't. You're never going to stop piracy.

Although I'm sure someone who is more into console gaming can tell you more. But in general, PC gaming is becoming more about ports which essentially means features that were standard are being taken away because consoles either can't handle it or simply don't have a need for it.
Wut? PS3 is considered ridiculously hard to program for, which is why many developers stood away from it for the first couple of years. Programming for a 360, from my understanding, is about the same as programming for a PC. In fact, I'm pretty sure the whole XNA suite can actually be used to program for either PC or 360.

The PS3 may be hard to program for, but it is a SINGLE piece of hardware to program for. Therefore, once you work out the kinks on that SINGLE platform, it'll play correctly. Xbox360 uses PC style coding but for a SINGLE set of hardware. PC is very dynamic, which is our greatest strength and our greatest weakness all at the same time.

To the person that said we need a face for gaming... it's not going to make a lick of difference. The rift will be there, regardless of what sort of movement. PC is not the money making platform. Consoles, in all their inferiority generate a MUCH larger revenue for the company, and if the company is publicly traded, that is where the money will go. A developer with a golden heart and a private bank roll to use, can develop as they see fit. If you have stock holders dictating what needs to happen to line their pockets, a PC gamer's needs will fall short of their vision.

The only way you can see something like this working is forcing hardware to run the same. AMD and Nvidia, Intel and AMD, would have to handle things identically. Then, any combination of power wouldn't matter. The game would detect the power of the machine, scale the visuals of the game to achieve the proper performance levels and smooth gameplay for all, and we'd be golden. But while this rivalry rolls around with out a single standard, it'll never happen.

The 2 industrys that have the most piracy, Music and Movies/TV, have not died from it in fact they have improved from it and it has made it easier for small labels to start up. what has had a impact on PC games is the fact that i spend $200 on a PS3 or $150 for a 360 and i am good to go where i would have to spend $300-400 to get a PC that would be able to run the same games. To your average consumer the choice is an obverse one. So with so much of the market going with consoles that is where developers will go. Now as for piracy i would have to say there is no way to stop it, there are ways to lower the about that is going on but it will always be there. I cant tell you the last time i heard about a demo that was good that was for PC and that was not just a video. just my 2cents.gif

Yea I don't trust these numbers. Anyway the game is terrible. They're just jealous they can't make games like DICE, Blizzard, etc.

umad bro?

ARMA 2 is a quality game, just a completely different style to anything else out there really. Main opposition is probably the Project Reality mod, although that's now for ARMA 2 anyway. Trying to compare it to anything that DICE have done is like comparing iRacing to CoD 4 to see which is the best RPG. Makes no sense at all.

Not so sure on their numbers, although I can see why a lot of people would pirate it to try it out as you'll either love it or hate it. Considering they do the free version now though I don't see where the extra numbers would come from, its not like its a well advertised title that people just don't want to buy. What I hope is that they keep the realism and don't dumb it down to try and get some more sales as they'll lose the people who really enjoy the game the way it is. Maybe releasing a free version as they did with ARMA 2 would work better if they did it at release rather than a few months or years later.

If your product is not getting pirated, it is not any good to sell.
