Q6600 to 2500k...worth it based on my requirements?

Thread Starter
Ok.

I have been running my Q6000 for like 3 years now...no issues ever, its been solid as a rock and a great investment.

However, I do feel like I have been missing out this past while, with all the next tech out.

What I use my PC for is 1. Gaming, 2. Unraring/Video Converting 3. Photo Editing. etc

Would I really notice the jump from a Q6600 clocked @ 3.2GHz to a 2500k CPU?

p.s If so, what cpu cooler should I go for to get a good overclock?

Absolutely. All your tick marks are checked 10 times over with upgrading to a 2500k -- even moreso if you get the 2600k, as HyperThreading would boost everything as well.

For a CPU cooler, the Thermaltake Frio got my 5GHz 2600k to idle at 28C and load at 59C :) With a 65F ambient temp.

Looks like you have a nice chip... not every 2600k will do what you have now "Core i7 2600k @ 5.0GHz | 1.42v LLC Level 6 "

on mine it takes up to 1.5V to 1.512V to hit 5ghz with HT on temps will hit up in the 90s if I run with

Linpack or Intel burn test, but with Prime it only hit 85* max.

Nice chip by the way.

Yeah, I got myself a golden chip completely by chance.
