cpu compatibly !?!?!?!?!?

Thread Starter
so i have kind of an old board http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138163 and in the reviews it seems to be very particular with its cpu support so i was thinking of buying the PII x4 830 from microcenter tomorrow now my board says doesn't have suppot fr this chip but it does have it for the PII x4 925 and i know the two are very similar so do you think it will work < let me know and thanks for the input

I don't see why it wouldn't work, they both have AM3 sockets. By support, could it possibly mean "technical support"?

Odd...the spec's for that board say Phenom 2 support. The 830 and 925 are from the same arch/process--I don't understand why the 830 wouldn't work when the 925 does.

Where are people saying that the 830 isn't working with the board?

@gay were i was sayin it was not supported was on the biostar website but in the reviews i saw a few wer ppl had put in athlon 260 and it would not work and its not supported on the site so i was just kinda worried if it was that picky with its cpus but what ive heard is that the 830 is just a rebaged 925 i just wanted other opinions

Bolded part made me chuckle.

I see. Well, I would assume that it should work just fine--the 830 and 925 don't have any differences in architecture, so I'd put my money on it working. However, it's not a guarantee, just a good bet... biggrin.gif
