System hard locks, what could it be?

Thread Starter
The system locks up. DOES NOT CRASH so no memdump.

Symptoms: All Cpu Meter locks up
Core temp stops changing
System does not crash
No response from os or ctrl+alt+del
ctrl+alt+del results in black screen with "busy" cursor
Mouse cursor still moves?

Swapped my ddr3-2133 for some ddr3-1333 and same lockup

Updated bios to latest, still locks up.

Disconnected two 150gb drives I added yesterday.

Could intel lightspeed raid be having a fit running two arrays?

set all your overclocks back to stock and see if the problem persists.

Lockups are generally attached to RAM or your motherboard. Are you sure you are setting the correct timings and voltage on the ram you are using? It can also happen with video cards as well but generally when you are gaming. I dont think its your raid controller but its possible.

Thing is I am not overclocking in any way.

Everything is running stock.

I am running prime95, will run it for a while and see what is going on.

My problem started when I added a second array on the intel lightspeed.
Second I unplugged the second array, my optical drive suddenly pops up
in plug and play dialogue.

The original recall was over this same chip, no?

The recall was for the motherboards which was a problem with the sata 3 ports. When did you buy the motherboard? Even though you are running stock, are you sure that your ram is running at the correct rated speeds and voltage? And when exactly are you seeing these freezes? Are you using a raid controller or onboard raid?

The board is a B revision, I returned the original flawed one.

I am using the p67 built in raid. It works fine with one array, but with two it seems to have issues?
I never had problems until I added the second array.

Removing the second array also caused the dvd drive to show up as a plug and play message.

I will simply see the pc lock up, no os response but no crash and the mouse cursor still moves.

CPU just ran prime95 for two hours.

Could a bad hdd cause a freeze? The drives weren't even formatted yet in the second array,
so it would have to be some sort of problem with ram or the p67

It took me over 8 tries to get the os installed, it would do things like crash in the updates.

I am starting to think that the lightspeed p67 sata might have flaws or incompatibility with the second arrays drives
(150gb sata drive short stroked to 40gb)

it's an intel thing ..how did i fix it? oh yeah..umm..set manual voltage..make sure load-line calibration (on your board) it would need to be on ultra-high or extreme..you may could get away with using offset voltage on THAT board..on the asrock..it's a no-go ..when i disabled all c-states,eist..and used manual voltage..it went away..i think..::fingers crossed::

I think the MB must be bad, if I connect any extra hard drives the system eventually locks up.

It seems it doesn't like two arrays across two channels.

The 2 6gb/s work fine, but I had to move the 2nd array to once channel vs across two.

So no cross channel performance for me.

Will consider upgrading to p68 which should not have this issue.
