[IGN] This is a Bad Time to be an FPS Fan - Page 9

MP opens up the opportunity down the road for them to get you to buy expensive multiplayer map packs. I don't have any statistics, but I bet the numbers that the mp map packs and add ons sell in far exceeds the sp add ons. If I had to guess, that's why they focus more on the mp, and the single player campaign gets crappier and shorter. The only major mp game I play online is Halo Reach, because it's more of a pure, simple mp game type. I built my pc to enjoy cool awesome gameplay and graphics by myself, because I enjoy it. If anything, I would really like to see more local co-op than multiplayer. I like to just chill and play and beat the game with my friends then go online every time and have to be super competitive.

I suggest one look at ARMA II and its expansions for some good SP campaign fun. Slightly buggy yes but barely. And its a great time. No one is holding your hand in that game.

see that's funny because me and a bunch of my friends all grabbed ARMA 2 when it was on a steam sale because we all thought it would be a lot of fun based on some videos we saw. Very tactical. Team work actually means something...

Yeah.. between the 6 of us, me and one other person got it to actually RUN. not run well, just run. We havnt really played it much at all due to it being simply unplayable sometimes, and mostly unenjoyably when it is playable without a much larger team, which we lack.

AH, but you were talking about SP! My point is completely invalid! No, not its not, I havnt played SP because it wont work on my computer. biggrin.gif:rolleyes:

Yeah, it's pretty hard to install a game and just click the play button... rolleyes.gif

Anyway...

I think FPS games could be "better" if they quit charging such high prices for the same crap over and over again, just a new face. The only "new" FPS game I played lately was Metro 2033 because it had, to me, a nice story line to it.

Also cheaters... the past year I've noticed a TON more cheaters than there have been in the past, and it's starting to make my FPS experience a depressing one.

This is how I felt all day today running into cheaters.

Listen. Buggy butts are something for you and your doctor to discuss. tongue.gif Sorry it didn't work, though. I just plopped it in and it worked no issues at all.

Coming from Battlefield 2, I wouldn't have expected a SP at all.

I have to say for me personally I've grown tired of FPS MP and most of it is all the same and it's just one big repetitive cycle of the same thing. So is most FPS SP's as well too and it's all quite awful. The only FPS game with a top notch SP I can think of in the last decade is Bioshock, that was phenomenally good. After the success of COD4 most other people have been trying to copy that and it's been awful ever since for the most part.

I've also grown tired of the community within most FPS MP's to the point I've got a major case of FPS fatigue. There's something about the latest generation of gamers I can't stand. In a way though I should thank them since I've proceeded to branch out into other genres as I played FPS almost exclusively (bar some RTS games) and I'm having much more fun than I've ever had before.

I agree with everything written. even though MP is very good, the SP of BF3 is disappointing at best (not because of bugs which i didn't run into).
What do you guys think about the lastest iterations of FPS franchises?

This 'anything goes' approach lead to some outstanding and varied single player experiences, with System Shock 2, Deus Ex, No-One Lives Forever, TimeSplitters, Rainbow Six and Halo just the tip of the iceberg in a creatively fertile period around the turn of the century.

That's the way it is with many forms of art when they're just starting to get popular.

Then they reach a certain point of popularity where some people with investor money decide to take over the market. Hire/buy out all the best talent, make a couple great games; then fire all the talent and buy cheaper labor to repeat the same formula the talent created ad nauseam. rolleyes.gif

Basically the number crunchers make the decisions and they aren't the creative minds behind great games.
