New to computer building - Page 5

have you considered a Llanno rig? you can usually build a decent one for around $400, but right now HDD prices are through the roof so probably $450 right now.

Also I cant tell you how to get windows free on a public forum, maybe you should try googling it

Whats the monitor? If it's a LCD there is a 99.9% chance it's 60Hz.

onboard z68 would kill it. With a fast CPU and onboard z68 graphics it could do those Resolutions nicely. And would be upgradable later and can overclock later. mATX z68 and 2500K are cheap if you buy a combo deal from microcenter you can get a board for $40 and CPU for $180

Oh you would know if it was 120hz (Refresh rate = Times it refreshes a second*) Because those things are not cheap!

Technically if you turn vsync off and push 120, your still going to see the responsiveness that they are talking about, even with a 60Hz monitor. Visually 60 to 120 does increase the fluidity but by a small small margin - that's what they are talking about when they say 'visuals'. There's no extra eye candy at that frame rate, just fluidity wink.gif
Monitors also have their own latency though... so.

After about 50 total posts in two threads on the internet, I feel like I've figured out computers suck. It blows to find out that people get such a big advantage based on money.... But I have learned the real problem behind why netbook sucks so bad for quakelive is the 1g cpu!!! That's good to know.

No, I didn't. I've been using this handle since 1994 but I know there are others out there. It's not a particularly original name; I'm simply attached to it. smile.gif
